Job Title: Management Trainee – Data Protection Investigations

About US:

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is an autonomous statutory body established under the NITA-U Act 2009, The Authority is under the general supervision of the Ministry of Information Communications Technology and National Guidance (MOICT&NG). The National Information Technology Authority, Uganda was established with a mandate to coordinate, promote and monitor the development of IT in the context of social and economic development of Uganda.

 

Job Summary: The Management Trainee will support the execution of compliance activities and investigations under the Data Protection and Privacy Act.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out activities related to investigations and reports on the observance of the right to privacy of a person and of personal data.
  • Process complaints and notifications promptly received by the Personal Data Protection Office regarding non-compliance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
  • Support in drafting the Personal Data Protection Office’s orders to the collector(s)/ controller(s)/ processor(s) to comply with the data subject’s requests to exercise his or her rights pursuant to the Act
  • Assist in liaising with other agencies to ensure that criminal investigations are completed in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with criminal law and the Act.
  • Prepare investigation reports
  • Prepare evidence briefs and attend court to give evidence on behalf of the Office
  • Support in preparation of the annual compliance report on investigations conducted by the Office and the respective outcomes
  • Assist in carrying out, in the context of mutual assistance with other Data Protection Authorities, or upon request, inspections, and investigations concerning the personal data of residents of such countries.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degree from a recognized university. Required.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Legal practice from Law Development Centre is an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) months working experience in legal practice/compliance/ inspection in a reputable public or private organization.
  • Must have a solid understanding of key concepts in Data Protection and Privacy;
  • Demonstrated trial advocacy skills are desirable
  • A resilient team player with a ‘can-do attitude, who is willing to take responsibility for leading and working with others to create breakthrough solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Result-oriented with a passion to innovate to deliver results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills that will enable a good working relationship with key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills
