About US:

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is an autonomous statutory body established under the NITA-U Act 2009, The Authority is under the general supervision of the Ministry of Information Communications Technology and National Guidance (MOICT&NG). The National Information Technology Authority, Uganda was established with a mandate to coordinate, promote and monitor the development of IT in the context of social and economic development of Uganda.

 

Job Summary: The Manager, Public Relations and International Affairs will be responsible for the effective and responsive public relations and communications management for the National Personal Data Protection Office.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Planning, developing and implementing Public Relations and Communications strategies
  • Designing and implementing effective processes for managing enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations
  • Planning and implementing publicity strategies and campaigns
  • Planning and organising events including press conferences, exhibitions, etc
  • Developing a media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
  • Create content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
  • Be the spokesperson for the PDPO Office including speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations
  • Developing and implementing a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics for the PDPO Office
  • Ensure the continuous promotion of the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019
  • Build relationships with regional and international data protection and privacy regulators
  • Work with media with the main purpose of informing the public about Office’s mandate and policies in a positive, consistent and credible manner.
  • Assist the Director with the preparation and implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Office

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant hold a Bachelor’s degree in PR, management, commerce, business marketing or related field from a recognized university
  • Master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field from a recognized university is an added advantage
  • Professional certification in marketing or public relations shall be an added advantage
  • At least five years’ active experience in public relations and communications management with functional responsibility at a supervisory role
  • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns
  • Experience required in PR, marketing and communications e) Creative writing
  • Able to prioritize and co-ordinate work streams/projects to drive delivery of the overall programme objectives and goals
  • Facilitates groups and individuals to create win-win solutions that delivery greater overall benefit
  • Builds and continuously develops high performing teams, empowering members and coaching others to exceed
  • A resilient team player with a ‘can do’ attitude, who is willing to take responsibility leading and working with others to create breakthrough solutions to complex problems
  • The role is strategic focused this person must have excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills, whilst being able to effectively bridge the communication gap between the technical and business aspects
  • Level of responsibility Direct supervision of three staff
