About CEDP:
The
Government of Uganda received credit from the World Bank towards implementation
of the Competitive and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP). The project
development objective (PDO) is to improve the competitiveness of enterprises in
Uganda through supporting reforms in priority productive and service sectors
geared towards a better investment climate with particular focus on MSMEs. The
5-year project comprises of four major components and is implemented by seven
agencies among them is Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). However, the
overall coordination of the Project lies with the Private Sector Foundation
Uganda (PSFU) through a Project Coordination Unit (PCU). URSB is implementing
Component 2: Business Registration and Business licensing reforms that seek to
reduce the burden for businesses in dealing with registration and licenses
procedure by creating an online one-stop-shop for business registration and an
e-registry for business licensing, and implementing measures aimed at simplifying
and streamlining business registration and licensing procedures.
Job Summary: The Legal Officer, URSB will offer support in the timely
implementation of the URSB registration processes in accordance to the laid
down principles.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Offers legal support in the registration of
    companies, business names, births, marriages and death, trademarks,
    copyrights, patents, industrial designs, geographical indications,
    attending to opposition matters and any documents in the Regions.
  • Write correspondences and Quality assurance
    of statutory requirements and issue notices for compliance and
    enforcement.
  • Certification and verification of documents.
  • In charge of the assessment of Non Tax
    Revenue. Public awareness
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    Senior Registration Officer from time to time.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Companies, documents, business names,
    registered.
  • Births, marriages and death registered.
  • Trademarks, copyrights, patents, industrial
    designs, geographical indications registered.
  • Returns and all statutory compliance
    documents filed in time.
  • Timely response to correspondences
  • NTR assessed.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should possess an Honor’s
    Degree in Law with a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
  • At least two years’ relevant professional
    experience working from a legal related institution in a busy environment.
  • The applicant should be enrolled as an advocate.
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills.
  • Proven integrity and confidentiality in
    handling public resources and in executing duties
  • Excellent interpersonal, management skills
    and ability to work with teams
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight
    deadlines
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
