About CRAFT Project:

In May 2018, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs contracted SNV Netherlands Development Organisation as a lead to implement the Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow (CRAFT) project in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The 5-year project valued at £40million is implemented by SNV in partnership with Wageningen University and Research, Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), Agriterra, in cooperation with Rabo Partnerships. The programme leverages €10 million in additional private sector investments. The consortium offers a strong platform to not only manage and coordinate a robust CSA programme, but also provide targeted technical assistance, business facilitation, and research and knowledge management support. CRAFT project received an addition funding of €4million to extend its implementation for 18 months, with the project expected to close out in June 2025, in the extension, SNV is in partnership with Wageningen University and Research, and Agriterra. The extension is to further downscale the adoption and sustainability of CSA practices and technologies for income, nutrition of SHF. Knowledge harvesting documentation and communication is central and requires enough expertise to deliver on this activity. Hence a justification for this supportive work force.

 

Job Summary:  The recruitment of Communications Interns at the Business Champion (BC) level for the Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow (CRAFT) project-Uganda is driven by the need to strengthen information, stories, knowledge harvesting and documentation. The content will contribute to the knowledge products the project will disseminate by the end of this year. The interns will support the communication advisor based in Kenya with in-country content.  As intermediaries between the project and farmers, BCs play a pivotal role in disseminating information and facilitating adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices for sustainability, resilience, and livelihood enhancement.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist BCs in developing and implementing communication plans and strategies tailored to local contexts and target audiences.
  • Create engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, newsletters, and print materials.
  • Support the organization and facilitation of training workshops, farmer field days, and community events to disseminate information about climate-smart agriculture practices.
  • Collaborate with BCs to produce multimedia materials such as videos, infographics, and case studies highlighting success stories and best practices resulting from CRAFT projects interventions over the past years.
  • Conduct interviews and gather testimonials from smallholder farmers to showcase the impact of CRAFT interventions, with specific attention to youths and women.
  • Monitor and analyse the effectiveness of communication activities, collect feedback from stakeholders, and make recommendations for improvement of the project’s impact, which will eventually support in the CRAFT endline evaluation.
  • The interns are expected to visit all the rural areas where the BCs assigned to them operations with the objective of acquainting themselves to the local context of the assignment area.
  • Maintain documentation and records of communication materials, best practices, success stories, activities, outputs, and outcomes.
  • The intern will work closely with Business Champions (BCs) at the grassroots level to enhance communication and outreach efforts.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication, or related field from a reputable academic institution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively in both English.
  • Proficiency in using digital communication tools and platforms, including social media management, content creation, and website management.
  • Creativity and attention to detail in designing engaging and visually appealing communication materials.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of agriculture, climate change, and sustainable development issues is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in local languages spoken in the project area is an advantage.
