Texans and Ugandans on Mission (T&UM), (formerly East Africa Ministries), is an affiliate of Texans on Mission. T&UM is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Michael Graham Radler of the Radler Foundation and is Committed to humanitarian work and community development. We are Christians on mission to transform and empower people across the world to prosper through provision of sustainable safe water, health-promotions, and economic initiatives, while sharing the love of God.

T&UM is dedicated to drilling boreholes for communities, providing training on preventative health, and village savings and loans associations (VSLA), engaging youth in trauma healing and talent identification through sports, and training church leaders to be agents of both physical and spiritual transformation in their communities.

 

Job Summary:   As a Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, you are responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. Your primary focus will be on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles and machinery to meet performance standards and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership

Routine Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to cars, trucks, heavy machinery, and specialized equipment.
  • Conduct oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and other routine servicing.

Diagnostic Assessment

  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to assess problems and determine effective repair solutions.

Repair and Restoration

  • Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and other components.
  • Weld, fabricate, and replace parts as necessary to restore equipment to proper working condition.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and services performed.
  • Generate reports on equipment status, repair history, and upcoming maintenance needs.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential issues before they escalate.

Safety Compliance

  • Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and standards.
  • Implement safety protocols and provide training on equipment operation and maintenance.

Parts Management

  • Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Source and order replacement parts from suppliers as needed.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with other departments, drivers, and equipment operators to understand and address maintenance needs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Equipment Testing

  • Conduct performance tests on vehicles and equipment after repairs to ensure proper functioning.
  • Make necessary adjustments to optimize performance.

Emergency Repairs

  • Respond to emergency repair calls promptly and efficiently.
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and criticality.

Driving

  • Perform the task of driving whenever needed.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive or equipment maintenance is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic, with expertise in diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license is desirable.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Stamina and physical fitness for prolonged periods of standing, bending, and kneeling.
