About ERA:

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory body established in accordance with the Electricity Act, 1999 (Chapter 145, Laws of Uganda). The Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, Sale, Export, Import and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The Projects Engineer ‐ Electrical will manage the electricity generation projects licensing process by carrying out technical review of license applications, monitoring progress both at feasibility study and construction levels in line with ERA Mandate.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the adequacy of the proposed power evacuation arrangement.
  • Monitor the implementation of power evacuation projects for power plants;
  • Review power evacuation arrangements and propose improvements;
  • Conduct analytical, technical review during the processing of license applications.
  • Monitor progress of projects and prepare quarterly status reports on electricity generation projects under development both at permit and construction stage.
  • Process license extension applications.
  • Monitor progress and quality of construction of electricity projects.
  • Provide support to the project costs evaluation team.
  • Advise on demand and supply issues based on the current generation installed capacity, licensed and feasibility study‐stage projects.
  • Maintain an up‐to‐date database of all ongoing, completed and commissioned generation projects.
  • Conduct site inspections and meetings during license processing and
  • throughout the plant construction period to ensure good workmanship according to standard to ensure value for money.
  • Participate in licensing of new power projects/investments.
  • Develop guidelines for project progress reporting by licensees.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Honors University Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant working experience in the electricity sector with practical knowledge in the generation, transmission and distribution systems, power projects development.
  • The applicant should be a registerable Engineer by UIPE/ERB.
  • Should be knowledgeable about the electricity supply industry in Uganda.
  • Should be below 30 Years of age.
