About US:

The UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program (the Program), founded in 2001, is a not for profit organization with offices and research facilities based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe.  The Program’s main activities are conducting research, building capacity and providing advocacy for HIV/AIDS vaccine as well as molecular and epidemiological work toward HIV prevention. The Program is mainly funded by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), USA but also receives funding from other donors.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive UVRI-IAVI vehicles for the transportation of authorized passengers, delivery and collection of mail documents.
  • Keep passengers safe at all time by defensive driving, timely servicing and ensuring the full
  • Functionality of the vehicle incl. fully operational repair kit, spare tyres, fire extinguisher, first aid box, etc.
  • On a daily basis, monitor the vehicle condition, early identification of any repair needs and handling them in coordination with the supervisor.
  • Keep updated about driving regulations in Uganda, follow changes that occur and promptly inform
  • all colleagues.
  • Accurate recording of vehicle logbook (travels, maintenance and repair works)
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of vehicle (inside and outside)
  • Support the supervisor in proper documentation related to vehicle incl. registration, necessary renewals and insurances
  • Timely communication of delays and other difficulties to the supervisor/passengers.
  • Fully respect Ugandan traffic law as well as the Program’s transport policy.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Diploma in a relevant field
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Permit with DL, DH and B is preferred.
  • At least five years of driving experience and preferably 3 years in an NGO setting.
  • Sound and up-to-date knowledge of road safety regulations and Ugandan traffic law
  • Defensive, anticipatory driving style
  • Certificate/ technical or commercial school and certificate in vehicle mechanics is highly desirable.
  • Experience in driving manual transmission vehicles is a must.
  • Should be willing to work beyond normal working hours if requested and personable.
  • Good knowledge of English
