meet the healthcare needs of Ugandans and East Africans who were seeking
medical treatment outside the region, due to the gap in quality healthcare
services in the country.

 

Job Summary:  The In-Patient Nursing Manager will mainly coordinate
and provide direction and guidance to all Nursing departments.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·        
Delivering
a professional and high standard of nursing care within the hospital

·        
Mentor
and develop nursing staff in patient care ensuring that their performance meets
the Nakasero hospital standards of care.

·        
Supervision
and coordination of nursing personnel and delivery of nursing care on a 24 hour
basis.

·        
Organize
hospital based education sessions.

·        
Implementation
of the plans for providing nursing care, treatment, and services including
determination of the types and numbers of nursing personnel necessary to
provide nursing care.

·        
Development
of a patient focused, team oriented culture, working in conjunction with all
other medical, clinical and therapeutic disciplines to ensure optimal service
and superior outcomes.

·        
Development
and implementation of programs enhancing a culture of safety and accountability
related to all aspects of patient care.

·        
Supervision
and coordination of nursing personnel and the delivery of nursing care on a
24-hour basis.

·        
Implementation
of effective, ongoing programs to measure, assess and improve nursing care,
treatment, and services delivered to patients.

·        
Creation
of an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission
by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the hospital mission to all staff,
holding staff accountable for performance, motivating staff to improve
performance and being responsible for the measurement, assessment and
continuous improvement of the departments.

·        
Ensure
that all patient valuables are dealt with as identified in the patient
valuables policy.

·        
Advocate
improvement in clinical practice and development of department based policies
and procedures.

·        
Implementation
of effective, ongoing programs to measure, assess and improve nursing care,
treatment, and services delivered to patients.

·        
Integration
of complex data to formulate decisions, develop programs and plans that
optimize health, promote wellness, manage illness, and prevent complications or
secondary disabilities.

·        
Ensure
the continuity of the expected standards of care by effective management of
staff and resources

·        
Implementation
and maintain an up to date knowledge of statutory regulations which apply in
the work situation and that of the nursing council of Uganda, and ensure
nursing staff act in accordance with those regulations.

·        
Set
policy, protocols, guidelines, procedures and ensure adherence to professional
standards. Remain current on professional rules and regulations.

·        
Maintain
nursing quality assurance standards and develop audit process of the nursing
practice.

·        
Maintain
infection control practices and standards.

·        
Ensure
that all patient complaints related to nursing are investigated in accordance
with the hospital policy and procedure.

·        
Implementation
of patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how patient
needs for nursing care, treatment, and services are assessed, evaluated, are
met.

·        
Implementation
of programs enhancing a culture of safety and accountability related to all
aspects of patient care.

·        
Promote
clinical governance and service improvements through the analysis of
complaints, adverse events and other change drivers.

·        
Provide
visible and accessible leadership creating a climate where individuals
understand their roles and responsibilities and people are empowered to be
effective in their role.

·        
Responsible
for maintaining standards of cleanliness.

·        
Monitor
and manage risk, investigate and act on complaints.

·        
Promote
standards and behaviors/approaches so that all concerns raised are dealt with
appropriately and timeously.

·        
Ensure
that staff maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.

·        
Ensure
appropriate care via individualized care plans.

·        
Form
positive relationships with all stakeholders including doctors.

·        
Responsible
for developing staff and maintaining clinical standards within departments.

·        
Oversee
the allocation of staff and their duties appropriately.

·        
Ensure
appropriate infection control protocols are in place.

Clinical
Responsibilities

·        
Maintain
a safe practice and environment for the patients at all times.

·        
Act as a
role model to other nurses on the unit.

·        
Practicing

·        
Maintain
personal contact with patients periodically ensuring that they understand their
treatment and that their needs are met.

·        
Communicate
with other professional staff to ensure that the care given to patients is of
appropriate standard.

·        
Take
responsibility for ensuring maintenance of accurate records/ documentation for:

o   Nursing assessment

o   Follow up nursing care plan

o   Family and patient education

·        
Make
sure that all information concerning patients and their treatment remain
confidential at all times.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        
The
applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

·        
At least
eight years of nursing experience in a busy hospital environment

·        
Minimum
five years’ experience in a nursing management capacity (Unit Manager level or
higher).

·        
At least
5 years of management experience

·        
Proven
ability to lead teams

·        
Ability
to enact policies and procedures

·        
Ability
to communicate effectively

·        
A
comprehensive understanding of the nursing process and measurement

·        
Training
in management or administration is desirable

·        
Ability
to demonstrate technical proficiency and the ability to comprehend its impact
on work/unit responsibilities.

·        
Excellent
leadership qualities, sound decision-making and problem-solving skills.

·        
Excellent
interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to
function well under pressure.

·        
Knowledge
of human resources, training, financial management of the private hospital
environment will be advantageous

·        
Demonstrate
ability to transmit knowledge, skills through nursing and patient education.

·        
Demonstrate
leadership skills and negotiation skills.

·        
Knowledge
of the nursing process, current, and legal aspects of documentation.

·        
Experience
in budget preparation

·        
Demonstrate
respect for and receptivity to other cultural norms and standards.

·        
Ability
to identify and analyze problems and take appropriate decisions to resolve
issues.

·        
Ability
to express a personal philosophy of nursing.
