NURI (Northern Uganda Resilience Initiative) programme, which will be
implemented from 2019 to 2022. In Arua district, the intervention for Climate
Smart Agriculture (CSA) will be implemented by Arua District Farmers’
Association (ARUDIFA). The main target for the strategic agricultural
intervention is to make farming communities more resilient to climate change
and to increase the average value of agricultural production for participating
farmers. NURI in Arua district will support 890 farmer groups or app. 26,700
farmers inclusive of the refugees. NURI will build on the experiences from DAR
but with a stronger focus on climate smart agriculture and support to refugee
cause. NURI will be implemented in close cooperation with the District Local
Government as well as UNHCR and OPM where refugees apply.
Job Summary:  The Marketing Coordinator will guide and
coordinate marketing activities of all farmer groups.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Collect and disseminate local price information to farmer groups
    through different means.
  • Sensitize farmers about new marketing possibilities and mobilize
    interested farmer groups into organized bulk marketing groups.
  • Guide and support marketing committees in collection of consolidated
    production and marketing data from farmers and farmer groups.
  • Identify large scale buyers or processors and link with bulk
    marketing groups
  • Sensitize staff on collective marketing models and opportunities
  • With District Commercial Officer carry out training of organized
    associations on marketing
  • Coordinate the marketing activities with other relevant actors in
    the district and lower local governments such as Dept of Trade and
    Commerce, etc.
  • Establish sustainable market linkages by developing linkages with
    traders and other existing marketing platforms and networks.
  • Monitor and guide farmer groups carrying out marketing.
  • Routinely compile data and deliver timely status and progress
    reports on marketing activities
  • Provide monthly reports to the Coordinator
  • Participate in radio programs
  • Provide technical oversight on Farmers groups production and
    marketing plans development and implementation.
  • Document and disseminate case studies, best practices on market
    activities and lessons learnt on working with farmer groups
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a relevant diploma or degree in
    Agribusiness, Commerce, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Agricultural
    Extension or any other related qualification from a recognized university.
  • Two years working experience in marketing of small-scale farmers’
    produce
  • Skills in program planning and reporting
  • Fluency in English and the local language are a must
  • Computer skills i.e. MS Office
  • A valid motorcycle riding permit
