The National Social
Security Fund (NSSF) is a Provident Fund mandated to provide social security to
its members as prescribed by law under CAP 222 (Laws of Uganda) through
efficient management of members’ contributions. The NSSF asset base is
currently over Ugx. 9.8  trillion, making the Fund one of the largest
players in Uganda’s economy.
Job Summary:  The Legal Officer– Litigation will be
responsible for handling civil and criminal litigation matters of the Fund.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Attend Court to prosecute or defend the Fund in Civil and Criminal
    cases instituted by or against the Fund when assigned.
  • Handle Alternative Dispute Resolutions like mediation, arbitration and/or
    conciliation in assigned disputes.
  • Prepare Legal opinions on the merits/demerits/strategy of Court
    cases
  • Draft correspondences and responses to statutory notices.
  • Prepare bi monthly reports on the status of all cases filed in
    Court.
  • Maintain case files in proper order.
  • Recover dishonoured cheques / instruments alongside the in house
    police Officer from the Criminal Investigation Directorate.
  • Conduct research on matters in Court.
  • Monitor changes in the legal system, review new and proposed laws
    and their impact on the Fund and advise accordingly

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold an honours Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Post graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development
    Centre
  • The Job holder must be enrolled with a valid practicing certificate.
  • One year of experience in Litigation in a busy law firm/Parastatal/
    Government Ministry, Department or Agency.
  • Experience in land litigation shall be an added advantage”
  • Communication skills – both oral and written
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills and credibility at
    senior level
  • Presentation skills

  • Trial Advocacy skills
  • Drafting skills
  • Computer literate (Microsoft office, Internet search, online
    databases)
  • Team work skills

  • Self-Starter
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and priotise
    responsibility.
