Job Summary: The Engineer
III-VAS Applications will develop and support VAS applications according to the
agreed-upon specifications, performing maintenance activities on the
applications to ensure service remains with the MTN KPIs and provision of L3
support for the customized internal applications for incident resolution.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Responsible for the development and
    testing of solutions/products using any of the common programming
    languages according to the agreed specifications of the requesting
    department
  • Ensure optimization of existing VAS
    applications to ensure VAS systems performance meets customers’
    expectations and maintains company KPIs including proactive monitoring of
    the internally developed applications.
  • Tasked with the development of technical
    documents to be used for new products/solutions including technical
    specifications and operations and maintenance manuals
  • Serve as the technical lead in VAS
    projects related to internally-developed applications and managed by the
    capital projects team and participate ably when required as a resource in
    cross functional projects
  • Derivation of trends in performance from
    statistics as well as from customer complaints so as to provide long term
    solutions to problems identified

  • Research on new VAS Apps solutions to
    ensure MTN uses the most advanced technologies and techniques.
  • The incumbent will design,
    implement/supervise implementation and test internally developed
    solutions/products to ensure the services are within company quality
    requirements before launch.
  • Tasked with the development of scripts to
    ensure efficient collection of statistics and generation of required reports
    and ensure the execution of relevant O&M tasks on relevant systems to
    maintain system performance
  • Ensure L2 and L3 support for resolution of
    incidents related to the internally developed applications to ensure MTN
    NWG Remedy SLAs
  • Perform any other duties as may be
    assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the MTN Engineer
    III-VAS Applications job opportunity should hold a Bachelor of Science
    degree in Electronics/ Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering
  • Training in Software development &
    support, UNIX/Linux Server administration, Database administration
  • At least two years’ experience developing
    and maintaining applications
  • One year in telecommunications planning,
    operations or applications development
  • Previous experience in developing and
    maintaining applications
  • Knowledge of UNIX shell scripting,
    Application development and life cycle management,
  • Server administration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal
    skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Good Analytical and Organizational skills
  • Flexible, resilient and self-Directed
    person.
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Works well under pressure and tight
    deadlines
