About UIA:
Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) was founded in 1965 by Insurance
companies in Uganda to meet the challenges of an emerging competitive and
continuously growing Insurance industry with the overall objective to promote
the development and expansion of sound insurance and reinsurance activities in
Uganda. In pursuit of our overall objective, we use lobbying and advocacy,
publicity and sensitization, research and information dissemination, training
and product development to ensure the smooth operation and promotion of this industry.
By law- the Insurance Act 213- all licensed Insurance and Reinsurance companies
in Uganda are required to be members of this Association
Job Summary: The Research & Publications Officer will manly
build an information database, on the performance of the insurance sector
(including within the context of the overall economic environment, extending to
comparatives at the regional and global level) for information of members and
policy discussions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Regularly analyzing the insurance market
    environment within and outside Uganda and compiling data for information
    reports/databases.
  • Searching for and retrieving information
    from paperbased sources, the internet, online databases etc.
  • Preparing timely findings for publication
    and distributing information in a variety of formats.
  • Writing policy and strategy papers to
    inform on different insurance business lines and on issues that concern
    related stakeholders.
  • Interviewing members of the public,
    industry and related stakeholders in line with research requirements.
  • Assisting in the building and maintenance
    of a library of project reports, tools, and publications.
  • Keep members updated on national, regional
    and global trends in the insurance sector.
  • Maintain project communications with
    external members and collaborators.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • To engineer sector competitiveness by
    enabling long range planning, as well as public policy discussions;
  • Facilitate market development, including
    through regular publications;
  • Keep the sector informed on current
    developments/ issues related to the national, regional and global
    insurance environment.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Research & Publications Officer
    should primarily hold a Bachelors degree in Quantitative Economics,
    Statistics, Social Sciences or related discipline
  • At least three years’ experience in
    research
  • Good working knowledge of database
    management systems, use of information based software application,
    including word processing, database, spreadsheet software and SPSS
    package.
  • Possess a high degree of personal
    integrity with proven research, analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and
    sensitive information.
