About URC: 
University Research Co., LLC (URC), a US-based public health
organization working in Uganda since 2005, is implementing the USAID-funded
Strengthening Uganda’s Systems for Treating AIDS Nationally (SUSTAIN) project.
The project supports delivery of quality HIV prevention, treatment, care and
laboratory services at selected referral and general hospitals.
Job Summary:  The Project Engineer will be responsible for
developing and reviewing drawings, plans & measurements for works to be
contracted, review quotations and bids by potential Contractors to ensure that
they are economical & that they meet the required standards, craft &
recommend quality solutions, supervise/oversee works carried out by Contractors
to ensure that they meet the desired quality and are carried out within the
time limits, consult/work with Architects, Engineers & Contractors to meet
URC renovation requirements and ensure proper trucking & filing of
renovation activities & documentation.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • Possession of a Higher Diploma in either Mechanical,
    Civil or Electrical engineering or in Building Management
  • At least three years experience with a
    variety of building and infrastructure systems, tools, equipment,
    maintenance and repair
  • Proven experience in renovation works and
    supervising contractors
  • Excellent verbal & written
    communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Experience in managing/supervising
    Contractors
  • Demonstrated skills in assessing
    conditions and standards of buildings, tools, equipment and completed work
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and
    standard health and safety practices  
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and
    practices of general building construction and renovations.
