Unit on AIDS, based at the Uganda virus Research Institute, Entebbe invites
applications tram suitably qualified Ugandans for the following contractual
posts. These posts have become available on a one-year renewable grant from the
ALPHA Network. The ALPHA Network started in 2005 and links existing African HIV
cohort studies. It aims to maximize the usefulness of data generated In
community-based longitudinal HIV studies in sub-Saharan Africa for national and
international agencies involved in designing or monitoring interventions and
epidemiological forecasting. The ALPHA network is funded by The Wellcome Trust
and is in its second phase (2010- 15) with additional funding from the Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation to investigate the pattern of mortality among
HIV positive adults In Eastern and Southern Africa in the era of antiretroviral
therapy The network is coordinated by the Department of Population Health at the
London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Job
Summary
: The field
worker / mobilize will schedule Verbal Autopsy interviews in Kyamulibwa (and
possibly Entebbe) field site S(he) may be asked to conduct interviews using
paper questionnaires or electronic data capture in Kyamulibwa or Entebbe.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure
    full understanding of objectives. procedures, risks and benefits of
    participation by volunteers
  • Contribute
    to effective mobilization of the study population and provide feedback to
    communities on study results.
  • Provide
    study information and confirm consent is obtained for the study
  • Get
    hold of informed consent, if not already obtained
  • Facilitate
    group education sessions about study requirements
  • Administer
    study questionnaire/other study tools (as may be required) lo the study
    participants
  • Resolve
    queries whenever there is need to do so
  • Transcribe
    and translate data-from the study, as may be required by the Project
    Leader.
 Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:
  • A
    UCE certificate with credits in English and Maths
  • One
    year’s experience in: health field interviewing using electronic data
    capture or paper questionnaire.
  • Good
    community mobilisation and communication skills.
  • The
    person must be compassionate especially tor recent bereavement.
  • Good
    knowledge of the GPC study area including Kyamulibwa sub-county.
  • Able
    to ride a motor-bike with a valid class A rider’s permit b) Desirable:
  • Being
    a resident in Kyamulibwa sub-county
  • Knowledge
    of MS Office packages especially MS Access Certificate in health
    education/health promotion.
  • GCP
    certification and counselling training.
