qualified candidates for the position of Technical Officer / Climate Adaptation
Specialist for an anticipated program in Uganda, focusing on increasing
professional expertise and research in higher education institutions to help
meet the challenge of adapting to climate variability and change in the
agricultural sector.
Job
Summary:
The Technical
Officer will be responsible for providing technical oversight and assisting
with day-to-day management and communications needs.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides
    technical support on climate adaptation and guidance to staff and partners
    in the development and dissemination of tools, materials, reports, and
    papers.
  • Implements
    and monitors climate change adaptation capacity building activities.
  • Supports
    training and capacity building strategy, conducts training on topics
    related to climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector.
  • Works
    with academic institutions, communities and partners to maximize local
    capacity. Works closely with the COP to ensure activities are implemented
    according to work plans and standard procedures.
  • Writes
    and edits technical reports and documents.
  • Assists
    with publications, web pages, and presentations.
  • Conducts
    research on climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector.
  • Provides
    support and input into the program’s performance monitoring and evaluation
    system.
  • Supports
    program COP in responding to internal and external requests and inquiries.
 Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:
  • Master’s
    Degree in natural resources management, agriculture, environmental
    science, climate science, natural resources economics, public policy or
    other relevant field (a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and ten
    years of experience could be substituted for Master’s degree).
  • Minimum
    of five (5) years of experience working on climate change issues.
  • Or
    an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
    sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.
  • Experience
    in communications and administrative management of academic and a capacity
    building projects strongly preferred.
  • Previous
    experience working on similar programs/activities, with a particular focus
    in climate change and capacity building, in Uganda strongly preferred.
  • High
    level of interpersonal skills.
  • Strong
    English written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability
    to travel within country or region and internationally if needed.
