About AFRICHILD:
AFRICHILD is an organisation established under a partnership between Makerere University, ChildFund International, TPO Uganda, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and Columbia University, USA. The Centre will be governed by a Technical Advisory Board. The goal of the Centre is to serve as a child focused multi-disciplinary training and research centre that contributes to knowledge and skills development in child protection work.
The Centre will be based within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in Makerere University Campus. The Centre’s programs will include: action oriented research; policy analysis and policy influencing; research capacity building among practitioners, government technocrats and academia; curriculum development and professional child focused training programs. The Centre also envisions improving practice and strengthening linkages between academic institutions and practitioner organizations.
Job Summary: The Centre Administrator will be responsible for managing the Centre’s resources – especially to oversee the human, administrative and technical backstopping functions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Assist the Co-Director in work planning and overseeing the day to day operations of the Centre.
·         Follow through on commitments with partners, donor conditions and government obligations.
·         Responsible for the legal obligations of the Centre including registration and tax obligations.
·         Support Principal Investigators to undertake their research projects smoothly.
·         Organize dissemination workshops and seminars through which the centre work can be made public.
·         Oversee the establishment and management of the reference library at the centre.
·         Prepare periodic policy beliefs and disseminate these among various stakeholders
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·         A minimum of a bachelors degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
·         Experience in administration and acquaintance with issues in the childrens’ sector
·         Ability to work with CSOs, academic institutions and government agencies
·         Familiarity with legal requirements for registration with local authorities.
