About US:

The Hunger Project —
Uganda (THP-U) is part of the Global Hunger Project. THP has been implementing
integrated Gender Focused Community Led Development (GFCLD) programs since
1999, and so far, has presence in 10 districts in Uganda; in which TH PU has
empowered 12 clusters of rural communities! villages known as Epicenters to end
their own hunger and poverty through the Epicenter strategy. The epicenters are
located in the districts of Iganga, Kiboga, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Mbale, Mpigi,
Butambala, Wakiso, Kyankwanzi and in 2019, THP-U commenced programme operations
in Druka epicenter Nwoya District.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Develop,
implement, and monitor advocacy and communications strategy tor the Right2Grow
Uganda country programme. Create content for multiple platforms and audiences
including traditional media, social media, presentations, communication
materials and infographics. Write popular materials/evidence tor nutritional
advocacy at national and local government levels.

Community
Engagement and Advocacy

·       
Organize
target District leaders’ meetings to normalize IGITHS of collaboration,
coordination structure and mechanism for district CSO nutrition platforms.

·       
Take
lead in coordination of lobby and advocacy activities at District and sub
county levels.

·       
Organize
project dissemination meetings at the districts and sub county levels.

·       
Organize
capacity building sessions to strengthen DISTRICT NUTRITION COORDINATION
COMMITTEESS on issues of advocacy and communications.

·       
Convene
quarterly nutrition multi-stakeholder meetings on progress of preventing
undernutrition at district levels and sub county levels

·       
Generate
lobby briefs for engaging stakeholders to align budgets and programmes on
nutrition, WASH and sanitation.

·       
Develop
and implement strategies to increase the brand visibility and outreach of the
project.

·       
Liaise
with media outlets to ensure that the appropriate information and messages are
reaching the public, including preparing press releases.

·       
Review
of reference materials, identification of reference materials tor retention.
Maintenance of information database and photo library.

·       
Prepare
promotional material on the project, including pamphlets, newsletters and
videos.

·       
Organize
training of THP-U and R2G project staff on effective communications and advocacy.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications & Journalism, Media
Studies, Communications Strategy, Development Communication or relevant
discipline.

·       
A minimum
of five years of relevant experience in providing communication packages to
promote the activities of organization, preferably a development organization.

·       
Experience
in developing, implementing, and monitoring an advocacy and communication
strategies.

·       
Experience
developing publications or communication materials for advocacy on nutrition,
WASH and sanitation work.

·       
Experience
coordinating projects including managing internal communications, calendars,
and meeting notes

·       
Experience
managing social media accounts, website content, and editing an organizational
logs.

·       
Familiar
with CSO civic space in Uganda in relation to policy and budget advocacy

·       
Experience
writing for both popular and academic publications

·       
ln-depth
understanding of media industry and knowledge of various media outlets,
including preparing press releases on the project

·       
Experience
in graphic design including use of Adobe Creative Suite.

·       
Experience
in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
and graphic designing/ web-based management systems.
