NGO Jobs – Short Term Media Consultant at International Organization for Migration (IOM)

About IOM Uganda:
IOM Uganda, in coordination with IOM the Netherlands, is working to disseminate public information materials entitled Surprising Europe, an international cross-media project concerning the life of African labour migrants in Europe featuring three interrelated project components. The Surprising Europe information materials are comprised of a TV series, a documentary and a website. This material is currently being promoted in ten African countries (Senegal, Mali, Gabon, DRC, Cameroun, Angola, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda), in cooperation with the IOM country offices.
The project focuses on opportunities as well as risks for Africans considering moving to Europe. It has received financial support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Al-Jazeera.
IOM Uganda will organize a launch event at Makerere University with students, media and representatives from the government, diaspora organizations and development partners. The material should also be distributed locally to television and radio stations as well as newspapers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
The Job holder will carry out responsibilities in the following areas:
  • Assist IOM in the design of the media launch event, identifying ways that the launch event is stimulating and interactive, and is a catalyst for the wider distribution of the public information materials.
  • Liaise with print and broadcast media representatives in Uganda to guarantee media coverage of the Surprising Europe launch event.
  • Approach media outlets to obtain broadcast airtime and/or print space in periodicals.
  • Act as a focal point for all matters pertaining to the visibility of Surprising Europe.
  • Assist to write, edit and disseminate public information material on Surprising Europe.
 Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • University degree in journalism or communications.
  • Minimum three years’ experience working with the media.
  • Knowledge of migration issues is essential.
  • Experience working with IOM is preferred.
