Job Summary: The Head,
Department of Business Services will provide leadership in the development and
implementation of business plans for achieving UPL’s objectives with particular
focus on General Post Office (GPO), Central Sorting Centre, Kampala and Entebbe
business branches as well as all up-country DPOs and SPOs

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare annual work plans and budgets for
the Department and guide implementation of planned activities in line with
UPL’s Business plans. - Prepare and implement strategies to
achieve UPL’s business objectives in the Business Services Department. - Drive the income generating and
sustainability initiative of UPL through continuous growth of market
share, introduction and penetration of new markets, particularly with
regard to the Business Services Department. - Establish measures to ensure that the set
standards of timeliness, reliability, quality and cost are continuously
achieved. - Maintain close collaboration with
international postal associations and raise the profile of UPL amidst key
stakeholders by delivering periodic reports as duly agreed. - Create a strong brand affinity for UPL’s
products and services through implementation focused marketing strategies
and high level of customer - Work with the Finance Department to derive
optimum tariff rates and assure management about prompt and complete billing
for all services rendered. - Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship
and manage performance of staff through capacity building, coaching and
mentoring in the Business Services Department. - Ensure that the set standards of
timeliness, reliability, quality, and cost are continuously achieved - Manage the business of the company to
ensure continuous growth of market share by introduction of new products
and penetrating new markets - Ensure production of postage stamps and
franking machines within the established policies and procedures - Carry out effective and targeted market
intelligence to monitor competition, exploit new opportunities in the
market, and gauge the company’s market
Key Performance Indicators:
- Achievement of revenue and profitability
targets - Developed and implemented annual work
plan. - Improvement in customer service levels
- Completion of staff performance reviews.
- Effective operations
- Brand visibility.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Master’s
Degree in Business studies or Management from a recognized institution. - Possession of an Honours Bachelor’s degree
in Business or Management discipline - At least ten years of relevant working
experience, seven of which should have been at managerial level in a
reputable organization. - Significant exposure and experience in a
communications industry will be an added advantage.
