About US:
The Equal
Opportunities Commission (EOC) was established by the Equal Opportunities Act
of 2007 and is mandated to provide a framework for redressing imbalances which
exist against the marginalized groups while promoting equal opportunities for
all.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and implement EOC legal and mediation services, policies and
    procedures in line with EOC mandate requirements.
  • Carry out complaints evaluation and use findings to make appropriate
    recommendations for handling complaints.
  • Develop and implement a framework for delivering quality dispute
    resolution services in line with the set policies and procedures of the
    Commission
  • Develop and implement a framework for handling cases that have
    failed to be resolved through the dispute resolution mechanism.
  • Compile documented complaints and cases and prepare monthly,
    quarterly and annual reports in line with the set policies and procedures.
  • Contact all parties in the mediation process and prepare a conducive
    environment for carrying out mediation in line with set policies and
    procedures.
  • Appear in
    Commission proceedings and give evidence on matters relating to offences
    investigated in line with the tribunal management policy and procedure.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) Principal
    Legal Officer must hold an Honours Degree in Law from a recognised
    University plus a post Graduate Diploma in Legal practise from the Law
    Development Centre.
  • Post Graduate training in Human Rights, Social Justice or related
    field will be an added advantage.
  • At least six years of relevant working experience, three (3) of
    which should have been served at a level of Senior Legal Officer in
    Government or equivalent level of experience from a reputable
    organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with individuals in
    diversity of roles and with varying interests.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and management skills.
