The Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall
objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on
Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five
operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,
Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided
through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University
Core Lab) and Outreach.
Job Summary:  The Research Associate- Qualitative
Interviewer will be required to oversee the data collection process and data
analysis. He / she will be required to prepare progress reports on the study.
He / she will also be required to give feedback about the field work which will
include interviews and contribute to revision of instruments used in data
collection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Developing study tools i.e. standard operating procedures (SOPs),
    interview guides, consent forms, checklists, etc.
  • In charge of translating study tools into local languages.
  • Screening study participants using a screening checklist.
  • Obtaining informed consent from potential study participants.
  • Enrolling study participants.
  • Maintaining participants’ confidentiality and observing all research
    ethics.
  • Conducting participant interviews.
  • Debriefing about field notes.
  • Transcribing audio recorded interviews.
  • Transcript review.
  • Coding and qualitative data analysis.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Research Associate – Qualitative Interviewer
    job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in humanities (Social Sciences, Social
    Work, and Social Administration), Community Psychology, Education (Arts).
  • Knowledge of different qualitative data collection methods.
  • Knowledge of health research ethics.
  • Previous experience in data collection.
  • Training in Human Subjects Protection (HSP).
  • Training of Good Clinical Practices (GCP).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Flexibility.
  • Good negotiation skills.
