The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda), is an organisation contributing to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease.

 

Job Summary: The Counsellor (Retention & Viral Load) will provide HIV Counselling and Psychosocial services to clients, their families and community members, mobilize and support communities to respond to the HIV epidemic, and to provide ART with its related field services to enrolled TASO clients.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in development of departmental work plans, Budgets and reports
  • Provide quality and comprehensive HIV counselling and PSS services to clients, family members, key populations, communities and partners
  • Tracking continuity in care
  • Identify and link OVCs comprehensive services
  • Empower clients with skills for self-reliance and making appropriate succession plans
  • Refer and link clients for appropriate medical and psychosocial services
  • Mobilize and support targeted communities to offer HIV education and care.
  • Conduct index testing to household members of TASO Clients
  • Conduct home visits to clients to foster ART and TB adherence and family support
  • Supervise the Community Health Workers/Expert within the Centre’s area of
  • operation
  • Conduct Health educational and radio talks Establish and support peer support groups for clients
  • Conduct ARV refills for clients using various DSDM.
  • Follow and track clients at high risk of attrition, adolescents, non-suppression and KP
  • Provide Intensive Adherence counselling
  • Conducted community mobilization for planned activities
  • Make PMTCT follow ups at the community and facility
  • Liaise with Health workers, CHEWs to ensure integrated support to clients
  • Carry out mapping of Clients for care and prevention.
  • Provide technical support to Expert clients and CHEWs
  • Conduct need assessment for community worker
  • Provide support to activities of Adolescents and young people
  • Increase demand creation for HIV services among key population.
  • Compiling success stories
  • Any other duty assigned by the Immediate supervisor

 

Key Outputs

  • Comprehensive HIV counselling and Psychosocial services provided
  • ARVs and other prophylactic drugs delivered to TASO clients on ART and adherence ensured.
  • HIV Prevention services provided
  • Screening for mental health, GBV, NAC conducted.
  • Clients on ART mapped and CDDPs / CCLAD established.
  • Clients empowered with skills for self-reliance
  • Clients referred and linked to appropriate medical and psychosocial services
  • Index testing provided
  • Health Education talks conducted
  • Client support groups established and supported
  • OVC households supported in at least four Core Program areas
  • Increased identification of new positives and linkage into care ensured
  • Programmatic reports compiled





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields Social Sciences, Education, SWSA, Development studies, Community and Adult Education, Community Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Public Health or a related field.
  • Comprehensive HIV Counselling from a recognized Institution
  • ARV administration
  • Training of Trainers
  • Child counselling
  • Certificate in HIV Counselling/Certificate in Basic HIV/TB/ART management is desired
  • Certificate in nutrition assessment and counselling is desired
  • Motorcycle riding is a Must. The applicant must attach a copy of a valid riding permit (Class A)
  • One year in HIV Counselling or Clinical Services
  • Trends and developments in HIV/AIDS counselling
  • Rights of PLWHAs
  • Counselling skills
  • Ability to communicate medical facts to non-medical people.
  • Interpersonal skills

  • Computer skills
  • Other Qualities/Attributes: Integrity, Empathy, Patience, Confidentiality, Ability to work under mental and physical stress
