About USAID SBCA Project:

The Social and Behavioral Change Activity (SBCA) is a five-year program implemented through a cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Uganda) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP). The vision of USAID’s Social and Behavioral Change Activity is a Uganda where individuals and communities are not just healthy but resilient, supported by strong, adaptable systems and institutions to lead productive lives.

 

The SBC Activity supports the Government of Uganda (GoU) and the US government (USG) implementing partners in designing and implementing Social and behavioral Change (SBC) communication initiatives that contribute to reducing Maternal and Child mortality, Malaria prevalence, Total Fertility rate, new HIV infections, and TB prevalence, as well as improved Nutrition outcomes, resilience, and SBC systems and expertise.

 

Job Summary:   The Technical Specialist Knowledge Management and Documentation (TS-KMD) will lead USAID Social and Behavioral Change Activity’s (SBCA) knowledge management and documentation activities. The aim is to convey correct and timely information about project work to various audiences, including USAID, the Ministry of Health, USG, and non-USG partners.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement knowledge management strategies and processes (SBCA’s KM plan) to enhance learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain SBCA’s centralized knowledge repository, ensuring information is easily accessible, up-to-date, and accurate.
  • Collaborate with SBCA’s program monitoring, evaluation, and research teams, USG and non-USG IPs, MoH, communities, and project beneficiaries to collect and document information, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain updated documentation, including user guides, process workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Work with the SBCA staff to identify opportunities to improve knowledge management practices and tools and provide recommendations for enhancements.
  • Lead the planning and execution of project internal and external learning events.
  • Work with the SBCA Monitoring Evaluation and Research team to conduct regular audits of knowledge assets to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Provide SBCA and MOH DHPEC staff with training and support on knowledge management tools and processes as and when needed.
  • Support DHPEC in maintaining and marketing the SBCA-supported knowledge management platforms, including the Uganda Compass and the Data for Learning Platform.
  • Develop, promote, and nurture a culture of reflection, critical thinking, and learning within the SBCA and its partners.
  • Support the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party to manage internal and external communications.
  • Contribute to the program’s technical briefs, newsletters, and other internal and external communication materials.
  • Support SBCA in implementing its branding and marking plan and ensuring internal compliance.
  • Represent SBCA in relevant conferences and meetings as may be needed.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and practices.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Communications, Information Management, Library Science, or a related field.
  • Proven work experience as a Knowledge Management Specialist, Documentation Specialist, or similar role.
  • Experience working on a USAID-funded program or other large, bilateral donor agency projects in SBC/ health communication and Knowledge Management.
  • Sound knowledge of knowledge management principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems, document management tools, and collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all work, with a focus on quality assurance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies is a plus.
