Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda is part of the LWF World Service and we are currently supporting Congolese and South-Sudanese refugees living in settlements in the districts of Kamwenge, Adjumani, Moyo, Kyangwali and Lamwo respectively.

 

Job Summary:  Under the guidance of the Project Officer WASH, the Project Assistant is responsible for planning, initiating and implementing appropriate hygiene promotion interventions in Palorinya Refugee Settlement in Obongi Sub Program.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Implementation

  • Work with the Project Officer to initiate and coordinate the planning and implementation of hygiene and sanitation activities in and around the settlement
  • Train/sensitize refugees and host communities on hygiene and sanitation promotion behaviours
  • Conduct on-site mobilization, sensitization and training on appropriate hygiene and sanitation practices and techniques
  • Participate in communicable diseases surveillance and management of environmental health activities
  • Together with local community structures, identify beneficiaries to be supported with WASH items

Project Planning

  • Assist the Project Officer to prepare periodic work plans and progress/status reports on hygiene and sanitation activities and achievements
  • Representation and Coordination.
  • Participate in hygiene promotion technical working group, and settlement/zonal level coordination meetings

Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Assists in the collection, compilation and analysis of data relative to the project





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Sound Knowledge of hygiene promotion approaches like CLTS and PHAST.
  • Problem Solving and Decision-Making skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent English Language (both written and spoken)
  • Information Technology (MS Office, Internet)
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Good team worker with good communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently.
