In 2010, after spending 13 years as a cookstove consultant in Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa, Peter started Burn Design Lab and BURN Manufacturing Co. on Vashon Island, Washington. On a shoestring budget, BURN has assembled a team of world-class designers and engineers who are equally committed to designing the most fuel-efficient cookers in the world.

 

In 2014, BURN launched its first full manufacturing facility in Kenya – the first and only of its kind. BURN is now the only vertically integrated modern cookstove company in sub-Saharan Africa. The solar-powered facility currently has a capacity of 250,000 stoves per month and employs over 2,500 people, half of whom are women.

 

Job Summary:   The Market Research Associate encompasses a dynamic range of responsibilities. It entails delving into market intelligence through thorough primary and secondary research, uncovering insights into market trends, consumer behaviour, and competitive dynamics, all to bolster informed decision-making and drive business growth.

 

Additionally, it involves taking charge of market research operations, ensuring the highest standards of data collection, quality checks, and data cleaning practices. Furthermore, a pivotal aspect of the role involves actively contributing to the achievements of sales endeavours by providing indispensable administrative, operational, and communication support to the sales team, thereby synergizing efforts towards successful outcomes.

 

Market Intelligence: Conduct primary and secondary research related to market trends, consumer behaviour, competitive landscape, and other relevant information that will support business objectives, and decision-making processes, and support business growth.

Operations: Spearhead Market Research operations and best practices in-country about data collection, quality checks and data cleaning

Sales support: Contributing to the success of our sales initiatives by providing crucial administrative, operational, and communication support to our sales team.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing Intelligence Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyse data from various sources to identify market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive activities.
  • Monitor and assess industry developments, emerging technologies, and macroeconomic factors that impact our target markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute research initiatives that address specific business objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth competitive analysis to evaluate market positioning, pricing strategies, and product offerings of competitors.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and improvement based on market intelligence insights.

Operations Responsibilities:

  • Support with the design and set-up of projects while understanding the key drivers of project efficiencies and providing solutions where possible and within constraints.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of projects and overall handling of project logistics, including organization of enumerator teams and internal resources.
  • Monitor, maintain and improve the performance of field operations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Build positive relationships across cross-functional teams, to be the link and liaison across the various collaborators on project-related matters.
  • Maintain a balance of multiple activities simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet goals.

Sales Support Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the sales team to assist in pre-sales and post-sales activities, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
  • Coordinate and schedule sales appointments, meetings, and follow-up activities to maintain a well-organized sales pipeline.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide product information, pricing details, and other relevant information.
  • Liaise with various internal departments, including marketing, finance, and logistics, to ensure seamless order processing and timely delivery of products or services.
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by promptly addressing customer issues and concerns.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related course
  • At least five years of experience in conducting primary and secondary research, including data collection methods, survey design, and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving skills
  • Strong Organizational skills and experience in managing multiple tasks, coordinating research activities, and supporting sales initiatives.
