On behalf of our client, a leading commercial-Agriculture and manufacturing entity, we are looking for a qualified and experienced Assistant General Manager to work in Jinja, Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager will be a member of the company’s Senior Management Team (SMT), and will assist the General Manager in running the day-to-day functioning of the Education, Administration, Safety Health and Environment, ISO-Certification, Stores, fleet and Hospital functions. He/she will design policies, and budgets that promote the company’s vision and mission.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the General Manager in planning, coordinating, and managing the overall operations of the sugar factory in coordination with heads of the department.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization within the factory operations with the help of HODS.
  • Implement best practices and innovative techniques to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality.
  • Oversee inventory control activities, including stock levels, procurement, storage, and logistics.
  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials and minimize inventory waste.
  • Assist in the development and management of the operational budget. Monitor expenses, analyze variances, and implement cost-saving measures without compromising product quality.
  • Review and summarise various reports received at the General Manager’s office periodically.
  • Coordinate with Heads of the departments on behalf of General Manager for various tasks completions.
  • Represent the General Manager in various forums i.e. internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, government agencies, and industry associations.
  • Maintain effective communication channels to address concerns, resolve issues, and build relationships with trade, corporate social responsibility forums, and other government and stakeholder engagements.
  • Collaborate with other HODs/senior management members to formulate and implement the company strategy.
  • Evaluate overall performance by analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Prepare regular reports on production, quality, and operational performance. Analyse data, identify trends and provide insights to the General Manager for informed decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with partners/Stakeholders and act as the first point of contact for different stakeholders from time to time.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, risk assessment and building processes based on the company’s business goals.
  • Measure the efficiency of systems and procedures, tracking business results, and monitoring production key performance indicators.
  • Communicate the vision and mission of the company across all levels.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration or relevant field.
  • A Master’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • 15-20 years of experience in a manufacturing environment at senior role or a similar role in a related industry is a plus.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
  • Experience in governance and stakeholder management is added an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
