About US:

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary:  The Social Affairs Officer will contribute to the planning, coordinating, and monitoring of land and social affairs in the oil and gas sector for harmonious coexistence between communities and oil and gas activities in the operation areas. He/She reports to the Senior Social Affairs Officer.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake monitoring of land acquisition activities.
  • Assist and contribute to grievances resolution and ensure good relationships with host communities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Take part in the sensitization and consultation meetings with host communities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, plans and programs and ensure social issues are addressed.
  • Contribute to the development of IEC materials and mobilize host communities to participate in oil and gas activities.
  • Aid in the planning, budgeting and reporting for the Directorate.
  • Assess social compliance of oil and gas activities.
  • Participate in review of environment and social assessment reports.
  • Undertake any other assignments as may be directed from time to time.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • An Honor’s Bachelor’s Degree in social work, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related disciplines from an internationally recognized institution.
  • At least three years of relevant working experience
  • Analytical skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Communication and report writing skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
