Nakasero Hospital Limited (NHL) is a private hospital in Kampala that opened its doors to outpatient treatment in March 2009 and inpatient treatment, the same year. Our mission is to provide quality medical care to patients, to fill the gap which is created by lack of adequate medical facilities in the country.

 

Job Summary:  The Front Desk Officer will be responsible for interacting with patients/clients in the hospital premises

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greeting and welcoming: responsible for warmly welcoming patients and visitors, as they arrive at the hospital. To provide a friendly and professional first point of contact, ensuring a positive experience for everyone
  • Patient check-in and registration: register new patients, verify and update patient information, and assist in the completion of necessary forms and documents. To ensure accurate data entry and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Appointment scheduling: schedule appointments for patients, either over the phone or in person and coordinate with various departments to arrange appointments according to availability and urgency
  • Managing phone calls and inquiries: Answer phone calls, address inquiries, and provide accurate information to callers. Possess good communication skills to effectively handle inquiries and direct calls to the appropriate individuals or departments.
  • Coordinating with medical staff: liaise with medical staff that is nurses, and doctors to communicate patient arrival, emergencies, or any urgent requests.
  • Insurance verification and billing support: verify patients’ insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits and assist in billing processes, including, explaining billing procedures, and providing necessary documentation to patients.
  • Maintaining records and files: maintain and organizevarious records, documents, and files, including patient records, appointment logs, and administrative forms to ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and easy retrieval of information.
  • Handling emergencies: to follow established protocols, alert the appropriate personnel, and provide initial support and assistance to patients or visitors
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of working experience in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software for data entry and scheduling
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance procedures (preferred)
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations
  • Customer service-oriented mindset
  • Empathy and compassion towards patients and visitors
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with healthcare professionals
