About WALIMU:

World Alliance for Lung and Intensive Care Medicine in Uganda (WALIMU) is an NGO that works to empower health workers to address local health problems in Innovative ways in order to transform patient care and improve outcomes.

 

In partnership with WALIMU, IRC will be piloting a SMART discharges program within the humanitarian context of Lamwo district to find out best approaches in handling discharge so that proper predictions, evaluations, and follow-up strategies are undertaken so as to improve health outcomes after patient discharge.

 

Smart Discharges is a program under WALIMU whose aim is to improve post-discharge care in children recovering from severe illness.

 

Job Summary:  The Field Officer will be involved in getting post-discharge patient outcomes both physical and phone follow-up at 2, 4 and 6 months.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop follow-up schedules for patients enrolled in the study in collaboration with the Study Coordinator.
  • Conduct phone and physical follow-ups for study Participants to get outcomes.
  • Conducting verbal autopsies in all cases of study subject death.
  • Proper management of the assigned equipment including motorcycle in line with WALIMU and IRC fleet management procedures.
  • Ensuring the safety of all study equipment when in the field.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and respect during all subject interviews in the field.
  • Upholding high level of professional conduct.
  • Checking the data in a mobile phone or tablet for completeness.
  • Generating REDCap reports.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures where applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Certificate or Diploma in any health-related field.
  • Able and willing to ride a motorcycle and move to remote places.
  • Have a valid driving license clearly indicating Class A.
  • Mobile device familiarity, REDCap Microsoft Word and Excel, email, and general internet use.
  • Good counseling skills.
  • Well-developed troubleshooting capacity and clarity of thought.
  • Have high energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethics.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and work within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written).

  • Well-developed troubleshooting capacity and clarity of thought.
  • Have high energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethics.
