Uganda Association of women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) is a membership-based feminist organization established in 1974 to promote and defend human rights with emphasis on women and children as beneficiaries across the country. FIDA-Uganda’s mission is to advance gender equality through the promotion of women’s and children’s rights and its priority areas include; to promote justice frameworks that are gender responsive; to enhance social justice economic empowerment and inclusion for women; to promote gender justice through strategic partnerships and to enhance the capacity of FIDA-Uganda as a center for legal excellence for women lawyers. It also advocates for policies and practices at the national, regional, and international levels that more effectively protect the rights of women. FIDA-Uganda operates nationwide with a Secretariat in Kampala and other satellite districts across the country.

 

Job Summary:   The Project Coordinator will take lead in management and implementation of the project activities through: aligning FIDA Uganda’s advocacy on business and human rights with feminist positions; ensure that FIDA Uganda is active, visible and influencing processes related to protecting the human rights of individuals and communities in the context of the activities of transnational corporations and other business enterprises; support development of tools, manuals, research, policy positions and other products to anchor advocacy and learning of business and human rights in specific targets of project result frameworks; responsible for periodic internal reporting and annual donor reporting, among others.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Honours degree in Human Rights, Law and or relevant field
  • At least five years of experience in project management with specific reference to business and human rights related programs.
  • Extensive knowledge on business and human rights.
  • Extensive knowledge on the gender concerns related to business, human rights and corporate accountability from a feminist perspective.
  • Essential skills excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Negotiation and networking skills related to advocacy in national and regional policy space is desirable.
  • Ability to build alliances and engage with civil society movements and coalitions.
  • Language requirements: Fluency in written and verbal English.
