Youth Alive Uganda is the leader in innovative children, adolescents and youth integrated development programming since 1993. Youth Alive Uganda is a registered youth led and children/youth focused NGO that implements children and youth integrated development programs across the country in four thematic areas; Health, Livelihood, Education, Human rights and skills Development and Mentorship.

 

Job Summary: The Youth and Gender Specialists will provide technical leadership in integrating youth, vulnerable populations, and gender across IRS to enhance access to and use of health services, ensure engagement and participation of youth and vulnerable populations, and promote gender inclusivity. He/she will oversee the implementation of integrated youth and gender inclusive programs by actors involved in delivery of health services.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support coordinated Technical Assistance in integration of youth and gender in health service delivery.
  • Develop strategies to engage communities and key partners and stakeholders in implementing gender and youth responsive health interventions.
  • Take leading role in development of annual and quarterly work plans and budgets for youth and gender platform.
  • Coordinate with other UHA technical area leads to ensure integration in service delivery and harmonized work plan.
  • Provide technical support to youth and gender implementation structure including full- time staff that contribute and volunteer field structures.
  • Provide technical Support to youth program team to form, maintain and sustain peer groups for Adolescents and young people at facility and community level
  • Develop quarterly and annual reports for gender and youth platform and support integration of these into project quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensures meaningful engagement with women and youth led organizations to promote equity in delivery of health services in the communities.
  • Ensures capacity development for health program team and community structures to reduce bottlenecks in activity integration and inclusive health service delivery.
  • Support districts to integrate planning and implementation of youth and gender inclusive health programs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold an Advanced degree in Social Work, Public Health, Development Studies or any related field.
  • At least six years of professional experience in youth and gender sector in a health program in Uganda, three of which must be in a similar/related role.
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation and management of inclusive and youth and gender responsive programs.
  • Experience in working in a USAID funded program, especially one implemented in a consortium is an added advantage.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on oral presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of Uganda policies that guide health (HIV and SRHR), youth and gender programming.
  • Good writing skills with ability to interpret data in reports and present good report/ document layout.
  • Computer skills with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
