About US:

Uganda Heart Institute was legally established in 2001 as a Company limited by guarantee of its founding Bodies namely, Mulago Hospital, Ministry of Health, Makerere University and

Uganda Heart Foundation. In UHI therefore commenced operating as a semi-autonomous Unit under Mulago Hospital. The purpose of the registering UHI as a limited Company was to fasten the growth and development of the Institute, by enabling it to solicit for funds and manage its resources at source.

 

Job Summary: The Project Civil Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and supervision of the construction works and equipping of Uganda Heart Institute Project

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

In accordance with the project objectives, the project Engineer shall; –

  • Approve works and prepare certificates for payment to the contractor
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geological data for the plan projects
  • Monitor progress and ensure conformance to design and specifications and including health and safety of workers and the public
  • Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades and elevations to guide construction ensure all activities are  carried  out
  • Exercise control  to as scheduled and within the cost and able to meet quality expectations
  • Prepare and submit reports to the project coordinator
  • Conduct joint measurement of works with the consultant team
  • Certify on the certificates
  • Raise any technical issues that require to be addressed through the consultant
  • Review technical reports from consultant

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Must be a registered or chattered Structural Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree qualification or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution
  • Applicants with a relevant post graduate qualification will have added advantage
  • He/She must be registered with the relevant professional body (Engineers registration Board- ERB for Uganda)
  • At least fifteen (15) years in structural design and investigation of buildings and pavements/roads with ten (10) years being in construction supervision.
  • Should be familiar with governing design codes in the country
  • The applicants shall be computer literate
  • Competence in use of standard architectural software
  • The applicant shall have knowledge in preparation of tender documents and technical specifications for building works
  • He/she must  have  a  high  level  of  interpersonal  and management skills, high integrity and proven ability to work with teams at all levels
  • Must have the proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimum supervision
