About US:

The Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda is the professional body for Pharmacists in the country mandated under section 21 of the Pharmacy and Drug Act, Cap 280 to ensure the highest practicable standards in the practice of Pharmacy. Its governing body is the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda whose functions among others is to encourage research in the subject of pharmacy and chemistry and ensure member’s welfare. The Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda, located on plot 1847, East African Road, Banda, Kyambogo.

 

Job Summary:  The accountant is responsible for all financial functions including accounting, payments, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. The accountant ensures compliance with Government of Uganda regulations. The accountant also provides timely reports and assistance to the President PSU and the council to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Accountant is responsible for giving support on all aspects of Financial Management of the society.
  • Oversee and manage daily accounting and finance functions including timely recording of transactions, cash management, payroll, inventory management, advances ledger, and payables.
  • Maintain records of annual subscriptions and all sources of revenue to the society.
  • Prepare Financial Performance reports that track expenditure for effective monitoring in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain and update the advances ledger on a monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation reports and other financial information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Train and supervise finance staff in the program.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for review in line with society’s financial requirements.
  • Take lead in auditing processes by properly preparing for the audits, providing explanations and documentary evidence in support of responses raised to auditors’ findings.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Must possess either ACCA or Certified Public Accountant (CPA-U) Accountancy qualifications.
  • Must be Member in Good Standing with either CPA or ACCA.
  • Must possess a Bachelor degree Business Administration or its equivalent with bias in Accounting or Finance.
  • Post graduate qualifications preferably an MBA shall be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in finance with Government OR reputable institutions. with particular expertise in supporting and implementing financial management operations.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in budget preparation and analysis, financial reporting preparation and presentation and proven ability to translate technical financial data into informative reports.
  • Strong accounting skills and experience, including management of financial transactions, journal entries, payroll, advances leger, assets ledger, payables ledger.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS office, Tally and QuickBooks.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Good communication and excellent inter-personal skills.
  • A team player, responsible, diplomatic and confident at dealing with people at all levels of different backgrounds.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Planning skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and deliver within tight deadlines.
  • Approachable and willingness to listen and assist finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and on irregular working hours. Ability to occasionally conduct training of staff within the financial management area.
  • A demonstrated ability to multi-task and quickly process information.
  • An impeccable professional standard of finance and procurement ethics as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance.
