Reports to:  Vessel Chief Engineer

 

About US:

Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established under an Act of Parliament to construct, operate and maintain railway, marine and road services both inside and outside Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. As a result of privatisation of operations, the mandate of URC changed from that of an operator to that of asset holder, concession monitor and advisor on railway technical matters.

 

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Vessel Chief Engineer, the 3rd Engineer is responsible for the efficient performance of the Engine room.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

In charge of the 4 – 8 engine room      

  • Conducts inspections, watch.
  • maintenance and repair works in the Engine room.
  • Makes entries
  • Keeps the vessel Engine room documents including the main Log book, oil discharge
  • Requisitions for materials
  • Accounts for materials
  • Keeps records
  • Provides reports to the Chief Vessel Engineer

Supervision of the Engine Room

  • Supervises the Engine Room Attendants.
  • Schedules their work
  • Creates a conducive work environment
  • Assists the Chief Engineer in
  • Carries out specific performing duties with specific assignments on behalf of the

Assignments Chief Engineer including maintenance of fire , pollution, and lifesaving  equipment:

  • sewage plant
  • oily water separator
  • sanitary system
  • deck sprinkler system
  • co2 fixed battery system
  • portable extinguishers
  • fire detection system
  • life boat

Performs other duties assigned

  • Willingly carries out other duties




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • At least a marine Engineer four class Certificate of Competency.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as at least 3rd Engineer.
  • Skills in Computer applications particularly; Microsoft Access, Excel, Word.
  • Capable of working under pressure
  • Ability to work with people of diverse cultural /ethnic background, gender, and beliefs
  • Team player,
  • Good communication skills,
  • Must be keen on details,
  • Works in organized manner,
  • Keeps time.
