About US:

The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda) was founded to contribute to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO is implementing various projects funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund in partnership with various Implementing Partners to support the Government of Uganda accelerate epidemic control and the attainment of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 goals.

 

Job Summary:  The Accounts Assistant will ensure that all financial records of the project are accurately written, properly maintained and regular/periodic returns properly compiled and submitted

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that established internal controls are implemented.
  • Ensure that monthly, quarterly, annual and other necessary financial reports are prepared and submitted in time.
  • Proper and timely bank reconciliations prepared and presented for review.
  • Review all payment requests for completeness and adequacy of supporting documentation
  • Ensure that activity funds advanced (contingency funds) are accounted for within 48hrs after the completion of such an activity.
  • Ensure that statutory deductions are properly accounted for and remitted to the relevant authorities within the required dates.
  • Prepare and submit variance and other management reports as required.
  • Write expenditure vouchers.
  • Ensure reconciled statements are certified by the Finance Manager before they are submitted for review
  • Be custodian of all key project finance records.

 

Key Outputs

  • Established internal controls implemented.
  • Accounting and Financial management reports prepared on time.
  • Books of accounts balanced and posted as required.
  • Vouchers filed properly and authorized payments made.
  • Project records well maintained




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a first degree preferably in B. Com (Accounting) or BBA (Accounting) with a professional qualification should have completed 1″ stage ACCA or 1st stage CPA
  • Two years of experience in a position with accounting responsibilities in a reputable Project or organization preferably an NGO.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting procedures
  • Knowledge of planning, budgeting, reporting and auditing
  • Supervisory skills and Organizing skills
  • Hands-on-computer skills in MS Word, Excel and relevant accounting packages (including NAVISION)
  • Other Qualities/Attributes: Strong integrity, Team work, Sense of self-respect, Strong personality and Honesty
