About US:

The Permagarden4all
initiative is a 12-month project funded by the ISA Foundation. The project will
seek to improve maternal and child health, and food security in 750
impoverished households in Kamuli District. The permagarden4all is a climate
smart strategy that combines permaculture; an agricultural approach using
design principles to utilize natural systems for production, and bio-intensive
agriculture; an approach to maximize production on a small amount of land
through sustainable practices, to create highly productive gardens.

 

Job Summary:  The PEMT volunteers will work under the
supervision of the Project Coordinator. PEMTs will work directly with other
community-based structures, including Community Facilitators (CFs) and Village
Health Teams (VHTs), to conduct household profiling utilizing the ODK Collect
mobile data collection tool to identify the project’s beneficiaries. They will
also lead the households in the construction and maintenance of the
permagardens. PEMTs will be required to complete a 3-day training in Kamuli
District.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

 PEMT volunteers must demonstrate the following
skills and experience in their application in order to be considered

·       
A degree
in Agriculture/Horticulture, Natural Resource Management, Food Security or
other related field is desirable.

·       
At least
one (1) year experience in agriculture/horticulture production.

·       
At least
one (1) year experience planning, coordination and implementation of mobile
data collection activities/projects related to food security and agriculture.

·       
Knowledge
of home gardening, compost production, vegetation management, and food security
and livelihoods.

·       
High
level of interpersonal communication skills, including ability to interact with
project Stakeholders and District Officials.

·       
Demonstrated
ability to prioritize and manage workloads effectively, delivering outcomes
within stipulated timeframes.

·       
Excellent
spoken and written command in English and Luganda, and ability to work in
multicultural and rural communities.
