(AMwA) is a Pan-African Feminist and Transformational Leadership Development
Organization with a mission of strengthening the individual and collective leadership
of African women, forming strategic partnerships, to tackle patriarchy and
attain gender equality and women’s empowerment for a just and secure Africa.

 

Job Summary:  Are you a self-identifying feminist leader
from and based in Uganda looking to contribute to shaping the feminist journey
of a young feminist leader by serving as a mentor? Are you looking to learn new
perspectives on mentorship whilst gaining personal satisfaction? We are looking
for women and gender non-conforming identifying feminists (in Uganda) who want
to voluntarily share their unique leadership experience with dynamic young
women. The mentors will support our goal of shaping a feminist future through
our Feminist and Transformational Leadership Fellowship. Supported by UN Women
Uganda, the fellowship is being led and implemented by Akina Mama Wa Afrika’s
flagship program the ‘African Women’s Leadership Institute (AWLI)’ which
provides a powerful and holistic feminist grounding for African women to enable
them define, analyze and articulate their experiences of inequalities and
devise solutions for sustained change.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        
Receive
full support and guidance throughout the programme.

·        
Be
provided with orientation and supporting comprehensive mentoring materials; The
orientation aims to help mentors learn more about the African Women’s
Leadership Institute, its goals, specific mentoring toolkit and guides, sample
working schedules, etc.

·Support the mentee to develop and implement a
personal strategic plan, interface with the mentee at least once a month, and
hopefully develop a long-term relationship.

·        
Provide
mid-term and final evaluation of the mentorship progress and status updates to
Akina Mama wa Afrika.

·        
Participate
in additional meetings of mentors and mentees to leverage networking within the
duration of the fellowship, exchange of ideas and approaches and further ease
the mentoring process itself.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

·        
A
Ugandan feminist leader;

·        
An
experienced, enthusiastic professional (at least 5 years in a related field)
who is well-connected to various networks and opportunities for leadership
development;

·        
They
should be passionate about mentoring, guiding and supporting future young
feminist leaders;

·        
They
should be available to serve as a mentor for 12 months from (September 2020 –
September 2021) and provide mentoring guidance for up to two mentees (as
needed). Mentorship would likely involve working meetings including online
sessions  (e.g. Email, Messenger,
Viber/WhatsApp, Skype, etc.) and face to face meetings.

The goal
of the Mentorship programme is to support the personal and professional
leadership development of the fellows and foster a community of bold young
women catalyzing social change and transforming their communities.
