Job Summary: The
Communications Officer will support FCA communications in co-operation with
FCA’s Finland-based communications unit and Kenya-based East Africa
communications officer. The Communications Officer will develop communications
strategies for FCA Uganda projects and promote a positive public image of FCA
in Uganda through media relations, advocacy and dissemination of information on
FCA Uganda’s behalf.   The duties of the Communications Officer will
include the documentation and design, development, and dissemination of
communication materials for FCA Uganda’s Development and Humanitarian
Assistance Projects. Specifically, the Communications Officer will work closely
with the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to document and publicize best
practices and lessons learnt, and coordinate closely with advocacy related
activities and strategies. Key audiences for communication will include project
beneficiaries, targeted districts, humanitarian and development assistance
partners, the Government of Uganda/OPM, UN agencies such as UNHCR and UNICEF
and donors including the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, European
Union and others.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Planning and implementation of internal and external strategies for FCA
    Uganda communications and outreach in co-operation with FCA communications
    unit 
  • Carry out media and public information liaison
    for FCA, support production of program reports and other FCA high
    quality communication materials 
  • Develop a documentation and dissemination plan
    and provide action plans on how the deliverables contained therein can
    best be achieved 
  • Tasked with the design and maintenance of the
    FCA Uganda’s website and other communications chann
    els, including social media in
    co-operation with FCA communications unit
  • Support
    FCA staff with the design, development, editing, and dissemination
    of relevant communications materials through training in short story
    telling, photography and basic commun
    ications skills etc.
  • Ensure alignment with FCA and donor visibility
    requirements
  • Provide leadership in the production and
    publication of FCA quarterly newsletters and annual report in co-operation
    with FCA communications unit. 
  • Support FCA communications unit by providing high quality
    communications materials from Uganda for FCA’s global communications

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Finn Church Aid (FCA) Communications
    Officer job placement
    should preferably hold a University degree in
    Communication studies or related field
  • A minimum of three years working experience
    within communications in Uganda, ideally in the international development
    and/or humanitarian field 
  • Familiarity with relevant Ugandan government
    and international refugee frameworks and development policies gui
    ding humanitarian and development work
    in Uganda 
  • Effective communication, problem solving and
    decision making skills 
  • Strong skills in team working, networking and
    strategic thinking, with established links with various media channels being
    an added a
    dvantage 
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite,
    including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher 
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite,
    preferred 
  • Ability to set and work within timelines 
  • Excellent people skills and demonstrated public relations skills 
  • High degree of integrity and familiar with
    ethical guidelines on interview techniques including child
    safeguarding 
  • Excellent English communication skills, both
    oral and written
