Tourism Development and Marketing Officer Jobs at African Wildlife Foundation (AWF)

For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African Conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking a talented professional to support its tourism and biodiversity conservation efforts in the project areas within itsT4B Program, Uganda.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief of Party, T4B Program, the Tourism Development and Marketing Officer will assist in developing and implementing USAID T4B program work plan in support of sustainable tourism and biodiversity conservation in the project areas, coordinate technical input into the program from partners and consultants, assist the technical implementation of field activities and liaise with relevant program partners, local government, other donors, and the private sector. This position will support activities that expand supported parks and community products tourism market share in the target regions and coordinate non targeted community tourism enterprises and other local partners in their activities. Operationally the successful candidate will develop and carry out the overall tourism strategy for the program, work with conservation and community organizations on developing market driven tourism products, update and adapt training programs based on the local context and partner curriculum/programs, plan, budget for, and implement tourism component of the program, train local partners on program methodologies in order to build their capacity to run more successful sustainable tourism development programs, produce tourism strategies and economic impact studies for implementation of program work plan, liaise with relevant program partners and local government, other donor and private sector coordinating efforts on strategic matters that affect implementation of program work plan, devise and coordinate training and marketing campaigns as per agreed program strategy and work plan; undertake research to support community tourism enterprise development strategies, consult with both private and public sector entities to plan and implement activities, working towards the strengthening of tourism associations, advocacy groups, and local government systems. Oversee and monitor the development and implementation of the small grants program and subcontracts; participate in review of grants proposals in response to RFPs and RFAs, ensure program tourism development strategies support biodiversity conservation; select and supervise and support tourism consultants and program field volunteers activities and programs. Provide regular program updates to relevant partners and share success stories. This position will be based in Kampala, Uganda.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The successful candidate will;
·         Have a Master’s degree in Marketing, Tourism, Enterprise Development, Economics, Business Administration or related.
·         Have at least 5 years’ experience in similar roles.
·         Have the ability to understand the market constraints faced by local communities, and to identify innovative new approaches that will enable local rural communities to access markets in urban/regional centers. Have demonstrated experience working with multiple partners
·         Have strong written and verbal communication skills, in addition outstanding interpersonal skills
·         Strong interest in and understanding of conservation.
·         Be willing to travel to remote areas of the Uganda.
