Assistant Accountant – SOS Children’s Villages

Job Title:  Assistant Accountant
Organisation: SOS Children’s Villages
Duty Station:  Kakiri, Uganda
Reports to: Project Accountant
About SOS:
SOS Children’s Villages Uganda is an indigenous non-government, social
development organisation affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages International, a
worldwide child care organisation, currently running Children’s Villages and
other projects in 135 countries around the world. SOS has been working in
Uganda since 1991, and runs Children’s Villages and other projects at Kakiri,
Entebbe (Abaita Ababiri), Gulu and in Fort Portal – Kabarole district.
Job Summary:   The Assistant Accountant performs the
following functions but not limited to;
Monitoring cash flow and bank accounts for SOS Children’s Village
Kakiri.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Responsible for Revenue collection and
    control.
  • Budget preparation and control.
  • Make timely payments to staff, suppliers
    etc and ensuring that all payments are authorised and backed up with
    proper receipts, invoices and other relevant documentation.
  • Payment voucher control, ensuring that
    payment vouchers are available and well numbered.
  • Store and file all the payment vouchers
    ensuring that they are secure and well labelled.
  • Maintaining fixed asset register for the
    Village.
  • In charge of preparing monthly bank
    reconciliations.
  • Ensuring that laid down procurement
    procedures is followed and supplier invoices are paid in good time.
  • Manage all account payables and
    receivables.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The Assistant Accountant should hold a
    University degree in accounting, business administration, commerce or
    other equivalent professional qualification in accounting (e.g. at least
    CPA or ACCA level 2).
  • A minimum of two to three years accounting
    experience in a busy organisation/ setting. Additional experience in NGO
    community funded programmes including managing donor grants will be of
    great advantage.
  • Significant experience and knowledge in
    the use of Navison accounting software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
    skills.
  • The applicants should be mature individual
    aged between 26 – 35 years.
