tropical diseases and the promotion of child health.
Background:
Due to
a number of upcoming funding opportunities, Malaria Consortium anticipates
scaling up its work in malaria and child health over the coming year and is
looking to strengthen its team in a number of technical and programme management
areas.
Job Summary: The Child
Health Technical Advisor will be a key member of this team, providing child
health specific programmatic guidance to Malaria Consortium and its partners.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • Offer technical expertise at country level to
    the Ministry of Health (MoH) as it relates to all issues on capacity
    building child health
  • Represent the project at the MoH and in
    technical meetings related to child health
  • Review, develop, and prepare project training
    and communications activities on child health
  • Participate in operational research and
    monitoring and evaluation activities, collect and use available data to
    inform strategic and implementation decisions
  • Ensure quality in-service training that is
    technically sound, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of
    population 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The candidate should hold a Master’s degree in
    child health, nutrition, early childhood development and/or equivalent
    relevant experience
  • Significant experience in child health and/or
    public health, with experience in health programme design, implementation,
    coordination and management in developing countries, preferably in Africa
  • Strong programme management and policy analysis
    skills relevant to child health including programme monitoring and
    evaluation, budgeting, strategy development and ability to work
    effectively with partners and stakeholders. Ability to provide vision and
    input to strategy development at country and global level
  • Experience in collaborating with MoHs and/or
    national child health programmes in Africa on the implementation of
    technically sound public health programmes, including child health
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, policy
    experience, and problem solving skills working on and providing expert
    oversight of complex projects
  • Experience training and providing capacity
    building to colleagues, partners and ministry officials
  • Prior experience working on USAID funded
    programme(s)
  • Clinical training/previous experience in
    managing childhood illness would be an added benefit
  • Experience in technical analysis and writing,
    with proven ability to produce research protocols, journal articles,
    publishable manuscripts, technical briefs, etc.
  • Excellent planning, budgeting and communicating
    skills
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Project management and planning skills
  • Able to delegate efficiently and technically
    support teams with no direct line management responsibility over them
  • Excellent personal and time management
    skills 
  • Experience working in Uganda is desirable
  • Experience with community-based management of
    communicable diseases is also desirable
