About UVA:
Uganda Veterinary Association (UVA) is member organization that brings together all Veterinarians in Uganda. UVA was incorporated in Uganda as a company limited by guarantee in 1990. The term Uganda Veterinary Association UVA is used to refer to the entire veterinary fraternity that has associated itself under this umbrella. UVA’s primary client is the public (including producers, consumers and traders in animals or related products). UVA Mission is to contribute to (foster) socio-economic development and improved livelihoods through optimisation of animal resources.
Job Summary: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has ultimate management responsibility for UVA. The CEO reports directly to the Executive and recruits and supervises other manager’s assist in carrying out the responsibilities of UVA. The overall function of the CEO is to implement the strategic goals and objectives of UVA. To give direction and leadership towards the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy, annual goals and objectives. The CEO facilitates the Executive to fulfill its governance function.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Support operations and administration of the Executive Committee by advising and informing the Executive Members and interfacing between Executive and staff.
  • Serve as the head of management and will be accountable to the members of the Executive for operations throughout UVA membership, regional offices and the secretariat.
  • Provide leadership to UVA secretariat and coordinates activities of the regional offices
  • Oversee program, product and service delivery, including design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and service to UVA members and various categories of clients.
  • As accounting officer: Ensure sound financial management, facilities and risk management.
  • Prepare annual budgets for approval by the Executive and prudently manage the organization’s resources within the approved budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  • As a Public Relations Officer: Ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
  • Resource mobilization: Lead the organizational resource mobilization efforts including planning and implementation, identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation. 
Qualifications, Skills & Experience: 
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university, preferably in Veterinary Medicine with a strong management postgraduate training e.g. MBA, MPH, Development Studies or Post Graduate Diploma in Organizational Management and/or related qualifications. A qualification in Social Sciences or Development Studies or Business Administration/Management with postgraduate training in Livestock-related courses or demonstrated experience in the Livestock Industry will be considered as well
  • At least 3 years of work experience two of which should be at leadership level.
  • Experience in managing membership organizations will be a strong advantage.
  • An entrepreneurial, innovative self driven personality.
  • Leadership skills and experience in managing a multi-skilled team and experience with managing donor funded programs is an added advantage.
  • Additional advantage in possession of competencies in good written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, networking and interpersonal skills, results-orientation and ability to work on tight deadlines with minimum supervision
