Job Summary:  To provide support to Agriculture Market Support (AMS) programmes and activities to contribute to meeting the Agriculture Market Support needs of WFP beneficiaries and the Karamoja community.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support to monitor and review the overall trainings provided to smallholder farmers and other value chain actors by the cooperating partner.
  • Support the program staff to mobilize, monitor and supervise a broad range of activities conducted by Farmer Organisations from input access, production, postharvest management, and marketing.
  • Support the Field Offices to conduct regular monthly review meetings on the progress of the Agriculture Market Support.
  • Assist in the implementation of the plan of action, review achievement and constraints and provide Feedback to the senior Programme Assistant.
  • Monitor the overall number and status of smallholder farmers in the project
  • Liaise with relevant institutions to link farmers to financial institution to enable farmers access micro-financing support for increased production.
  • Co-ordinate with Field Officer staff and partner to ensure every targeted farmer receives the mandated trainings and e-voucher for the postharvest equipment ordered. Besides, ensure all data related to postharvest equipment is collected and analysed for decision making
  • In close coordination with Field Office staff and partners, visit smallholder farmers sites to verify progress and provide advice as required.
  • Assist in carrying out routine field visits to the targeted districts to support Field Offices on programmatic and operational issues in the implementation of AMS project/programme
  • Contribute to the periodic/monthly reports (offer support in the preparation of monthly reports and submit material for preparation of periodic project monitoring reports)
  • Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor or WFP management.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must have graduated not before 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics and Climate Change, Natural Resource Management and Marketing obtained from a recognized institution.
  • Basic understanding of Value Chain Development and Food System, Sustainable Livelihoods Approaches, Climate Change and Natural Resource Management and support. Strong background knowledge on the operations Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises which work towards supporting smallholder farmers
  • Good knowledge and skills in using MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Local Language will be an added Advantage
  • Has experience in community engagement to identifying underlying needs and appropriate interventions
  • General knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems and standards as well as working with producer organizations and other agricultural value chain actors.
  • Fluency in written and oral English language. Ability to communicate in basic Ngakarimojong, Lebthur and/or Swahili languages is a requirement.
