Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read,
copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and
syntax - Prepare,
rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do
this work - Plan
the contents of publications according to the publication’s style,
editorial policy, and publishing requirements - Verify
facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources - Review
and approve proofs submitted by the sources before broadcasting - Develop
story or content ideas, considering audience appeal - Oversee
news broadcast, ensuring adherence to deadlines and accuracy - Confer
with management and editorial staff members regarding placement and
emphasis of developing news stories. - Assign
topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage - Read,
evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for use and
confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization. - Monitor
news-gathering operations to ensure utilization of all news sources, such
as press releases, telephone contacts, radio and other reporters. - Meet
frequently with managers, marketing people, and production managers to
discuss projects and resolve problems. - Supervise
and coordinate work of reporters and other editors. - Select
local, state, national, and international news items received from wire
services, based on assessment of items’ significance and interest value.
Interview writers and reporters or negotiate contracts, royalties, and
payments for authors or freelancers. - Direct
the policies and departments of News, and other publishing establishments. - Arrange
for copyright permissions. - Read
material to determine index items and arrange them alphabetically or
topically, indicating page or chapter location. - Write
editorials, give presentations, or undertake such additional tasks as may
be requested by the Station Manager or the Managing Director which are
conducive to marketing the local Karamojong community and promoting local
events. - Work
with the local leaders and other members of communities to ensure that all
communities’ events receive coverage in the region. - Update
the NENAH FM News webpage, adding new articles and images on at least a
daily and weekly basis. - Report
on events in the community; take photographs and write up articles
(including for submission with the Deep Voice).
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- English Language — Knowledge of the
structure and content of the English language including the meaning and
spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. - Communications and Media — Knowledge of
media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral,
and visual media. - Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge
of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for
services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. - Law and Government — Knowledge of laws,
legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations,
executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process. - Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of
computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. - Administration and Management — Knowledge
of business and management principles involved in strategic planning,
resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique,
production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
