Project Background:
Malaria Consortium is bidding on a large multi-million-pound,
multi-country project focused on strengthening the surveillance, control and
treatment of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), a neglected tropical disease. Malaria
Consortium will lead a consortium of national and international partners to
implement this project in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and

Job Summary: The BCC Specialist will offer technical
leadership in behaviour change communication for this multi-country, high
profile, high value project, working closely with host country governments and
other partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulate BCC
VL strategies and then adapt them for each of the four targeted country
contexts based on best practice. - Work with
staff in each country to ensure the quality implementation of BCC
activities. - Lead the
preparation and implementation of a communication plan for the project. - Be
responsible for gathering information within and outside the organisation
that will be used in communicating news, lessons learned, best practices,
and research findings to each relevant audiences. - Participate
in the dissemination of research findings to District Health Teams,
Ministry of health (MoH) and other development partners on the impact of
the interventions - Assist in the
translation of technical information into materials and messages for a variety
of audiences. This will include the development of briefs on Visceral Leishmaniasis
for lay audiences. - Work with
other communication professionals within the organisation to ensure that project
communication and advocacy activities are streamlined and coordinated.
This will include coordinating and keeping abreast with other NTD
projects. - Develop and
maintain systems for monitoring progress on ongoing communication activities
and assist with communications research as required. - Offer
technical guidance and training on BCC to Malaria Consortium and partner
staff. - Oversee BCC
activities of project partners - Perform any other
duties as required
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should
possess an advanced degree in development, communications, media,
broadcasting, public health, social sciences or other relevant fields - Good understanding and
familiarity with development communications issues and solutions, particularly
in public health - Experience of public
health BCC related to case finding and demand creation - Excellent writing,
reporting and and presentation skills - Highly organized and
able to work successfully in a team that is geographically dispersed. - Familiarity with
public health principles - Extensive understanding
of Aid effectiveness and utilisation of the principles in project design
and Implementation - Project management and
planning skills - Able to delegate
efficiently and technically support teams with no direct line management responsibility over them - Strong skills in
negotiating with and engaging Ministry of Health Officials - Familiarity with data
collection tools for tracking dissemination metrics - Familiarity with
production processes and technologies for various media, including: print,
video, the Intranet, and other electronic media - Experience with
graphic design, or website content management - Experience working
with neglected tropical diseases - Experience working in
Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and/or Uganda
