Job Summary: The IT
Assistant will be responsible for developing the voice of all aspects of the
organization’s online presence. In addition to writing, editing and
proofreading site content, this person will work closely with the technical
team to maintain site standards with regard to new development. The incumbent
will also be responsible for crafting site promotions, email newsletters, and
online and social media outreach campaigns. The person will work closely with technical
and other members of our organization, so strong communication skills are
needed. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing the online
presence of a government organization and providing technical support to mixed
level of users. Tasks require a strong attention to detail and the ability to
work under tight deadlines. The candidate should be dynamic, self-motivated
individual with experience and skills in web content management, writing and
editing for the web, graphic design and website management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Online Content Management

- Create,
develop and manage content for Peace Corps Uganda’s web presence (requires
working with content management software) - Actively
coordinate web projects across Peace Corps Uganda program department - Maintain
a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties as per Peace
Corps’ requirements - Working
closely with a cross-departmental team, maintain and develop the master
content calendar for all web properties copy, edit and proofread all web
properties copy, edit and proofread all web content working with the
departmental heads. - Oversee
and manage the Facebook and Twitter accounts and other social networking
presence of Peace Corps Uganda and monitor the blogs - Keep
current with emerging web technologies through relevant blogs, listservs
and social media platforms - Assure
web-based information is archived for future needs and reference - Keenly
track and report on all site metrics - Work
cooperatively with key team members, clients and vendors - Manipulate
and organize data including but not limited to video, audio etc. into a
web format
2. Staff Training and Support

- Mentor
and train office staff on software Peace Corps uses such as; Microsoft
Office suite, Adobe Suite, Internet Explorer, Windows 7 and 8, burning
software; Peace Corps applications: VIDA, Intranet, SFTP, Track-it,
SharePoint - Aside
from the daily instructions on specific problems and methods of performing
simple tasks, the incumbent also must provide individual training to new
employees and to all users on new software packages or procedures - Provide
group user training as mandated by the Post - Support

users to augment verbal and classroom instructions.

Hardware Support and Maintenance (5%):

- Carry
out routine maintenance and help staff with their immediate hardware
issues on all computer equipment and LAN system, including but not limited
to Photocopiers, Printers, Desktop, CPU etc - Serve
as the primary point of contact with local HP warranty reseller on
desktops. Deal with repair centers where to repair broken IT Equipment. - Develop
a maintenance plan for the Peace Corps Uganda Computer equipment and LAN
systems, ensuring the incumbent and other system employees and Volunteers
are utilizing it. - Troubleshoot
hardware and software systems - Maintain
a legible and comprehensive record log of all actions conducted on the
LAN/WAN, to include routine procedures as rebooting of the systems - Seek-in-house,
local and regional assistance in a reasonable amount of time to ensure the
least amount of downtime - Diagnoses
computers for hardware failures then coordinate with suppliers for
defective or broken down parts and process replacements for the equipment
under warranty and arrange sending the defective ones back to suppliers
4. I.T. Equipment disposal
& Inventory Management (8%)

- Upon
receipt of new equipment and after deployment of the same incumbent is
responsible for taking old equipment off the inventory and handing it over
to GSO for disposal - The
incumbent shall follow the Peace Corps regulations for disposition of
information system hardware - The

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for US Peace Corps IT Assistant vacancy should hold a
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Computer Science, Technical
Writing is preferred - At
least two years of progressively responsible experience in Online Content
management and computer user support is required - Three
to five years’ experience managing
content and production for high traffic websites - General
working knowledge and familiarity with Web technologies and design
languages (applications) including client and server side scripting,
online content management - Exceptional
communication and organizational skills - Advanced
knowledge of HTML and experience with popular content management systems
(Drupal, Convio, Kintera etc) - Ability
to manage multiple projects in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment - Possess
the ability to do video and audio editing - Basic
adobe photoshop skills - Proven
ability to build consensus and work effectively within a
cross-departmental team - Good
users support and training skills being physically present or on the phone - Very
good knowledge of common applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe
suites - Good
background on computer maintenance - Possess
the ability to quickly learn and teach Peace Corps applications - Managing
Active Directory environment on Windows server 2012 - Managing

must be able to legally work in Uganda
