travel of all kinds for the most vulnerable people in Africa and to involve as
many people as possible in development work. Hope Development Volunteers works
in cooperation with grass-roots organizations in Africa. We support these
organizations through recruitment of volunteers and grants to support their
work and help increase their capacity.
As a service organization- Hope
Development Volunteers matches volunteers with non-profit organizations in
Africa that need them. Hope Development Volunteers runs a Volunteer Referral
Service that assists not-for-profits to find the right volunteers and interns
for the right volunteer or internship placements.
Job Summary: The Hope
Development Marketing & Communications Officer will plan, design, implement
and supervise all sales, marketing and communication programs. Currently, we
are preparing for a large expansion and would like to hire someone with proven
knowledge in sales, marketing, communications and management. The Marketing and
Communications Officer holds ultimate responsibility for the organizations
marketing activities and oversees the development and delivery of a fully
integrated marketing strategy for the business. Planning, designing,
implementing and supervising all sales, marketing and product development
programs, both short and long range, targeted toward existing and new markets
by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develops
    and implements strategic marketing plans and sales plans and forecasts to
    achieve corporate objectives for products and services.
  • Develops
    and manages sales/marketing operating budgets.
  • Plans
    and oversees advertising and promotion activities including print, online,
    electronic media, and direct mail.
  • Develops
    and recommends product and service positioning, packaging, and pricing
    strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
  • Achieves
    satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to preset
    standards and industry and economic trends.
  • Ensures
    effective control of marketing results, and takes corrective action to
    guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated
    budgets.
  • Manages
    and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet
    changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Monitors
    competitor products and services, sales and marketing activities.
  • Establishes
    and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key strategic
    partners.
  • Guides
    preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to executive
    management.
  • Establishes
    and maintains a consistent corporate image throughout all service lines,
    promotional materials, and events.
  • Directs
    marketing forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly.
  • Directs
    staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control
    sales and marketing programs.
  • Directs
    market channel development activity and coordinates sales distribution by
    establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals.
  • Represents
    the organization at association meetings to promote our services and
    products.
  • Meets
    with key clients, assisting sales representative with maintaining
    relationships and negotiating and closing deals.
  • Actively
    coordinates liaison between sales department and other sales related
    units.
  • Assists
    other departments within organization to prepare manuals and technical
    publications.
  • Prepares
    periodic marketing and sales report showing volume, potential leads, and
    areas of proposed client base expansion.
  • Regularly
    reviews and analyzes marketing performances against programs, quotes and
    plans to determine effectiveness.
  • Directs
    product and service research and development.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Marketing or Business
    preferred with a minimum of two years related experience with progressive
    managerial responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated
    in-depth sales and marketing techniques and financial principles.
  • Possess
    the ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with
    co-management, internal and external customers.
  • Responsible,
    self-starter, punctual, independent worker & attention to detail
  • Effective
    verbal & written communication skills
  • Strong
    computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, Power Point &
    Publisher)
  • Graphic
    & web design skills a plus
  • Excellent
    track record of success in senior marketing roles.
  • Entrepreneurial
    mindset with the ability to spot original branding opportunities.
  • Demonstrate
    the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues.
