About US:

The Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose 
mission is to
strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which
it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training,
Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab &
Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening. 

Job Summary:  The System Development Manager is a senior
role, responsible for the design,

implementation and
operation of all custom software at the institute, or for external parties as
directed by senior management. All work will be done in consultation with the
Head of Department, Information Services (HoD – IS). The System Development
Manager shall take responsibility for monitoring, maintaining and supporting
IDI’s entire software development infrastructure. He/she must be a diverse
individual, showing broad technical, organizational, project management and communication
skills and be capable of working individually and in a team environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Undertake
the technical evaluation of new or prospective software development features,
enhancements, upgrades and related products;

·       
Implement
new software systems and maintain existing ones in line with the institute’s
needs.

·       
Set up
and maintain a test/quality assurance/production environment;

·       
Setup
and maintain application documentation both automated and manual;

·       
Install,
configure, test and implement new releases or fixes of the software
environment, Assist end-users in the testing process;

·       
Provide
support and troubleshooting skills for customer problems, resolving issues and
reporting on all application software related issues;

·       
Conduct
user needs assessments to discover any software needs of benefit to the
institute.

·       
Participate
in the budgeting and procurements of software items.

·       
Participate
in Information Services Management Team (ISMT) meetings and activities.

·       
Manage
the software development team.

·       
Any
other reasonable duties that may be assigned by IDI Management

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information
Technology, Information Security or related discipline.

·       
Technical
certifications are an advantage.

·       
A
minimum of five years of experience in software development.

·       
Managerial,
leadership and project management experience of at least 2 years, with the
ability to mentor and guide other technical staff and successfully manage the
working of a software development team.
