companies to promote the development and expansion of sound insurance and
reinsurance activities in Uganda. UIA works to advance the interests of
insurance and reinsurance companies by adopting a common strategy that
encourages and promotes close cooperation, the exchange of business among
members, builds on knowledge through research, influences the enactment of
favorable legislation and represents the views of the membership to Government,
quasi-government and private bodies.
Job Summary: The Technical
Officer (Life & Pensions) will support the Uganda Insurers Association in
the development and growth of the Life insurance sector in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Work towards the development and promotion of life insurance in Uganda
which shall include:
·        
In charge of the review, study and evaluation of
all matters pertaining to life and pension business;
·        
Tasked with promoting technological advancement
in the life insurance sector and modes of achieving it;
·        
Understanding the legislative and regulatory
requirements and identifying areas for improvement or discussion, and proposed
solutions;
·        
Identifying, lobbying for and driving consumer
education projects and activities in order to create public awareness and
understanding of life insurance.
Support the Life and Pensions Committee:-
·        
Serve as Secretary to the Life & Pensions
Technical Committee of the Association;
·        
Guide the Committee in terms of priority actions
& activities in the best interests of the sector;
·        
Inform the Committee of all developments
pertaining to life and pensions discussed at the Executive Committee (EC) level
·        
Responsible for the execution of Committee
actions/ activities and events as decided by the Committee;
·        
Support the Committee in compiling business
cases and feedback to the EC where required and especially where funding is
required for certain projects;
·        
Work closely with the IRA on a regular basis in
order to ensure a good understanding between the Committee’s activities and
their requirements and goals for the sector.
Support to the Association:
·        
Serve as Secretary to the Medical Insurers
Committee
·        
Advocate for a favorable legislative framework
for the life & medical insurance industry in Uganda;
·        
Support the Association in pursuing professional
and technical excellence amongst members in the life & medical insurance
business;
·        
The jobholder will collect, analyse and
disseminate all information on both life and pensions and medical insurance for
underwriting and general information purposes;
·        
Work closely with other regional and
international institutions to, enable the life and medical insurance industry
keep in line with global and regional practices;
·        
Ensure that training according to identified
needs is carried out on a regular basis to support the sector;
·        
Assist in managing the Association website,
including timely updates;
·        
Provide support in the compilation of the
Association Activity Report, on an Annual basis.
·        
Perform any other duties assigned from time and
time.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The ideal candidate should hold an honors degree
in Insurance or a business development related discipline. A professional
qualification in insurance will be an added advantage.
·        
At least three years’ experience at management
level with a reputable Insurance Company
·        
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
