Promoting Equality in African
Schools (PEAS UK) is a UK-based charity with a mission ‘to unlock the potential
of Africa by expanding access to affordable quality secondary education.’ We
run the fastest growing network of sustainably financed secondary schools in Africa.
We currently have a network of 31 schools across Uganda and Zambia, educating
around 16,000 students. PEAS  is supported by major corporate, government
and private funders and our innovative financial model is pioneering in the
field of public private partnerships in development education.
Job Summary: The Deputy Country Director Programmes (DCDP) is
responsible for the delivery of PEAS Uganda programmes across the network,
contribute significantly to the delivery of the strategic plan 20182021; build
and strengthen partnership; leading the programme team and oversee
improvements; work closely with UK technical teams and support country office
and regional leadership and operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Strategy, planning and
oversight
  • Contribute
    to the design of global strategic goals and lead on the programme design
    for driving Access, Quality & Sustainability across the PEAS Uganda
    schools network
  • Steer
    the development of the PEAS Uganda Education Strategy, annual plans and
    budgets in line with the PEAS Education Approach, global strategic plan
    and values
Central programmes support and
supervision
  • Oversee
    centralized programmes team which delivers high quality support and
    supervision across the network: Education Quality, Child Protection,
    Monitoring & Evaluation, and Education Inspections.
  • Build
    a culture of commitment, high expectations and collaboration across the
    team where evidence and experience are core to a continuous improvement
    drive across the programme team
Implementing programmatic
excellence
  • Develop
    regional teams which can reliably implement PEAS’ mission on the ground,
    supporting school leaders to make great decisions which balance Access,
    Quality and Sustainability
  • Deliver
    PEAS’ ambitious goals of student enrolment, completion rates, adding value
    to student exam results, cost management and fees collection
Grant Delivery:
  • Lead
    on implementation of activities defined by PEAS’ grants, including those
    by major institutions, and support Programmes Team in timely reporting and
    risk management
  • Contribute
    to the design of new grant applications, ensuring that activity
    commitments are aligned with programmatic priorities to drive maximum
    impact for PEAS’ beneficiaries

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant must hold a degree in education with a relevant post graduate
    qualification from a recognized University
  • Six
    years of demonstrated experience in implementing development projects.
  • Experience
    successfully running, managing, or supporting a number of schools in Uganda
    and elsewhere
  • Strong
    track record of improving educational outcomes in low-resource settings
  • Strong
    track record in budget management, reporting and financial management
  • Experience
    managing complex stakeholder groups, in particular in rural, low income
    settings
  • Experience
    of developing and implementing Child Protection plans and managing Child
    Protection risks
  • Experience
    overseeing the implementation of programmes funded by institutional or
    bi-lateral Donors (e.g. DfID, USAID, EU, etc.)
  • Passionate
    about improving the life chances of all children through educational
    opportunity
  • In-depth
    understanding of internal education issues, in particular as they relate
    to children in Uganda
  • Knowledge
    of key issues in development education, public private partnerships in
    education, educational leadership and Teaching & Learning
  • Proven
    ability to motivate, manage and develop a mixed ability team
  • High
    integrity that will model PEAS core values
  • Abilityto
    spend 50% ofthetime in the feld
  • Excellent
    oral and written communication skills in English language
